I vote Reed.

He's annihilated three levels in the minors this year.

80K's and 11BB's in 55 innings.

He's on a Hudson-like fast track.

I agree, I want to see Reed too. But they should definitely give a shot to Reed or Remenowsky and some minor league arm before they go and trade for anyone. Hell, even Hector Santiago should be getting more than just 1 appearance in 2+ weeks.

So we'll be trading him for a more expensive player that plays the same position but is a veteran? And throwing in another prospect to boot?

LOL. Painful because it's so true.

Sounds like a way to solve our righty reliever need.

Is it worth pointing out that Crain is tied for 43rd in MLB in most appearances? Jonny Venters (seriously, no h in his name?), a rookie, has appeared in 12 more games. Scott Linebrink has pitched in more games than Crain.

It is. I'll criticize Ozzie for a lot of things, but one thing he does very well is keeping BP arms fresh.

It's probably on accident

Yeah, it's because we are still under .500.

The Braves, for whom Jonny Venters pitches, are about 25 games over .500, which means they have probably been in quite a few more close and late situations than us, in which a pitcher like Crain or Venters would be utilized most.

I wouldn't call it an accident, it's a direct result of the fact that we have 6 starters, most of whom tend to work deep into games, and who Ozzie always gives a chance to earn a win (like it or not).

I checked this last offseason...Every year that Ozzie has been here the Sox have been at or near the top of the league in innings from their starters and at or near the bottom of the league in innings from the bullpen.

Crain's in the worst possible situation for usage...the only reliable righty in a bullpen filled with lefties, and he's still only gotten mildly heavy use.

I agree with all of the above.

I think he would see more use if we were a better ballclub, however.

The Sox should just look.... at Birmingham. Addison Reed. End of story.

They don't need another Pena like deal for Heath Bell (as awesome as he is, particularly his slide to the mound) I don't wanna see Andy Wilkins or Trayce go for him.

KW wouldn't do Viciedo for a Reliever. He's not THAT dumb.

Sounds like time for the Trade Winds forum to open up.

I think knightni is just finishing up sweeping and removing the plastic sheets from that forum.

If all it took was Andy Wilkins to get Heath Bell I'd drive him to the airport right now.

I guess that's part of the problem, so many people take it as the truth and throw it out there as fact. I'm not trying to call out this post, but whenever I see a story linked to that site I always do my best to take it for what it is & isn't

I understand that its speculation...I put a question mark after the thread title to try and insinuate that. But Im sorry if I lead some people in the wrong direction.

Heath Bell will almost certainly be a type A free agent at the end of the year right? In other words, his asking price has to be greater than a sandwich pick and a 2nd round pick.

Addison Reed looks fantastic and has been awesome so far, but I really don't want him in the Big Leagues. Going from Low-A to the Majors is a lot to ask of a 22-year-old, drafted one year ago. If they bring him up, there is a good chance he struggles and completely loses all the momentum he had. I would rather go after a veteran so-so right-handed reliever to supplement the bullpen than ask that of a youngster. Heck, I think our pen is fine as is.

On a side note about Reed, his FIP numbers are insane. 0.83, 1.54, 1.11 in Low-A, High-A and AA, respectively compared with his ERAs of 1.13, 1.59, 0.96.
