Jordan4life_2007
QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) Stewarts numbers are horrible. He's been mediocre this year. But he was a consensus top 5 prospect in their system coming into the year. s***, beggars can't be choosers. I'll take it.

Soxbadger
I think when all the dust settles Stewart may be in the rotation this year.
GreatScott82
Rios to be benched for not just today but a long period of time according to the SCORE.
fathom
If Stewart's pitching in PCL, then I don't really care what his numbers were. I remember Reds fans freaking out whent hey traded him for Rolen.

hogan873
If the $10 million from the Jays is accurate, this is not a bad deal, IMO. I honestly don't care what Toronto does with Jackson at this point. If they do ship him to the Cards, they will have to send a top prospect, too. As others have said, the prospect St. Louis wanted from the Sox was most likely Viciedo. And I hope Rios sits his lazy ass on the bench the rest of the season. What he's getting paid doesn't matter...he is not performing, and he's not trying. RockRaines
The industry remains split on whether Stewart is a starter or a power sinker/slider reliever, but I still don't see a good reason to remove him from the future rotation, as he's a four-pitch guy who can miss bats and get groundballs. Stewart will pitch in the low 90 mph range but touches 96, and his fastball has both sink and tail to it. His slider is his best offspeed pitch, tight at 83-87 with good tilt, and he commands the pitch well, throwing it to both sides of the plate. His changeup improved substantially as the year went on, 81-85, straight, but with excellent arm speed. His curve has good depth but he doesn't command it well and it's not as tight as the slider. He stays over the rubber before driving forward with a long stride, although his arm action is a little long in the back and he pronates relatively late in the delivery. His fastball movement has limited his control, and he'll have to work on cutting down on free passes, but there's No. 2 starter potential here, No. 3 at worst, as long as he can throw enough strikes. WHarris1
Jackson was walking after the year, Teahen's contract was f***ing pathetic, Frasor will be useful, decent prospect. It's obviously not an awesome move but s***...

nitetrain8601
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) We got Stewart? Hmmm. Well that makes this a little more tolerable. There are still some unanswered questions about Stewart such as what kind of pitcher is he and is he a starter or a reliever? If you look at the statistics for Stewart in the lines above you will see a pitcher who has given up a lot of hits and few hits, walked a lot and walked a little and struck-out lot and struck-out little. Stewart has pitched very little for most teams he has been on, forty-two innings at A+ is his longest stay, so his numbers are subject to small sample size biases. At AAA Stewart profiles as a high walk, high strikeout pitcher but at AA he was the opposite. Stewart's strength is a hard running fastball that hitters find difficult to square up. Stewart also throws a slider and a change-up but both of those pitches need work. The Jays want Stewart to be a starter and that will require Stewart to improve the slider and change-up. Stewart will be limited to about 130 innings next season so he will probably split his time in 2010 between starting and relieving. Stewart has only 25 innings at AAA so he needs more time there to improve his pitches and to understand how to pitch to advanced hitters. Stewart could get some experience in 2010 as a major league reliever. To me, he's not good enough to make this deal.
