Someone made a great point earlier...Reinsdorf clearly respects the opinion of TLR. If TLR told him that Rasmus is uncoachable, then no way would JR bring in another sketchy personality after the Rios debacle.

Real good point. Plus if tony is having problems with him would oz do any better?

I have little problem with Rios still getting some platoon at bats. As much money as he's getting paid, we almost have to play him.

It is more about the length, he is under our control until 2014. He won't sit on the bench for 3 years making that much so it is in the Sox best interest to have Rios regain confidence and play better or we have what the Giants have in Rowand. A high priced player wasting away on the bench.

Zach Stewart better be something, or else we basically gave up Dan Hudson for Jason Frasor...

This deal is KW cleaning up his own mess.

Hudson and Stewart are almost identical in where they were in their careers when they were traded. Hopefully the results are similar.

Except huddy was younger with more minor league (although brief) domination.

Weird thing about judging Stewart appears to be the fact that the Reds put him in the bullpen for most of his first 2 seasons.

No one really committed to him as a starter until AA took over in Toronto. They made the decision, stuck with it while he struggled for 2 months with an ERA over 6, then he snapped off a good enough rest of the season to push his ERA down below 4 for the year.

An article said that was to limit innings initially

They really didn't seem to know what to do with him though. They sorta kept him in the bullpen because he was there.

Call it the "Chris Sale" treatment.

I'll just say that we might have been able to get more for Jackson, but this deal (ignoring the possibility to land Rasmus instead) is pretty decent. We rid ourselves of the garbage that is Teahen and apparently Frasor is a type B, which offsets losing the picks for Jackson. And I believe Frasor even has a club option for next season if we choose to hold onto him.

Yes, he has a $3.5 million option last year.

If the Sox decline his option and offer arbitration, his figure for this year is $2.65 million. He ought to be able to beat that in FA...unless they're dismantling or he puts up an ERA of 7 with Chicago I'd expect that option picked up.

LOL so basicly we get frasor for teabag and Jackson when we could have had Rasmus? Ohhh Kenny LOL! Wonder what the moron says now. Frasor ain't bad but Kenny went with the first trade, we could have held Jackson a lil longer and teams would have gotten desperate and gotten more.... Ohh the life of a sox fan....

Jackson for Rasmus? Not from what I've heard.

Even if you do get Rasmus and trade Quentin - you're looking at an outfield of Viciedo - Rasmus - Rios.

I don't think the Sox liked Rasmus because of his reported issues and because we have 4 outfields as it stands now.

Rios sucking really bleeped us this year.

Draft notes on Stewart:

Draft notes on Stewart:

Focus Area

Comments

Fastball: Stewart showed plus, plus velocity, throwing his fastball in the 95-97 mph range.

Fastball movement: It had plus life as well.

Slider: He showed a slider that was average-to-plus and threw it with good deception.

Control: He had plus command, particularly of his fastball.

Poise: He has a closer mentality, very aggressive and going right after hitters.

Physical Description: Stewart isn't all that big, but he's strong-bodied and his stuff plays big as does his bulldog mentality.

Medical Update: Healthy.

Strengths: Two plus power pitches and command of both of them. He has the right demeanor to be a closer.

Weaknesses: Having played at three colleges in three years, there's no real track record.

Summary: College closers have become all the rage lately, with some getting drafted early every year. Stewart could be in that group in 2008. The Texas Tech reliever relies on a plus fastball and slider and commands both power offerings well. He's got the kind of makeup you want in a short reliever, a guy who is very aggressive and goes right after hitters. The stuff plus the mentality could push Stewart into early-round consideration.
