Marty34
Most they should eat is half of Rios salary. To go along with Thornton, I'd say that's a fair deal for Gamel.
chetkincaid
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) Rios has, what, about $33M remaining on his deal? I would think the Sox would be eating around $20-25M of that, right? 25 Million? You might as well keep him. [flameproof suit on]

[flameproof suit on] Yeah, but assuming that De Aza, Viciedo, Mitchell are his fill-ins for the remainder of his contract, the Sox are still saving money. I would think the Sox would be eating around $20-25M of that, right? With the 2015 buyout, it's closer to $41-42M I believe, including the remainder of this season. I'd guess we'll be coughing up $25M+.
fathom
FWIW, some other tweeters with Brewers ties think the rumors are total BS
Cali
ANYTHING to ge Rios out of the clubhouse... I think he's just a drag on and off the field and him not being in the organization is best for everyone involved...
TomPickle
The only part of the deal that makes any sense is the Brewers wanting Eduardo Escobar.

Special K
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:55 PM) Yeah, for some reason I didn't carry a 1. Yeah, I figure its around $42-43M he has left. I realize Rios is by far the worst player on our team this year, but a year ago he was one of the best... I don't like the idea of buying high and selling low. There is a possibility of Rios bouncing back next year, hopefully with some extra motivation after this atrocious year, and moving somewhat towards the norm of his career which isn't bad, even though he is still terribly underpaid. The problem with letting Rios go is that we still don't have a CF unless De Aza is the guy. If Rios does have a bounce back year next year and put up decent numbers in line w. his career, an OF of Viciedo, Rios, and Quentin doesn't sound so bad. WHarris1
Rios "good first half" of 2010 is rather mythical given that he OPS'd over .800 in 1 month all year and it was 1.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) Holy f***! If they pick up Rios's contract, someone owes Kenny a BJ. Kenny would owe the Brewers a hot carl. I can't see this happening unless JR, who from what I hear has been very pissed off with Rios, just told KW to get rid of him no matter what the cost. caulfield12
We can't move Rios unless.... 1) Quentin/Danks/Thornton (possibly 2 of them) are involved 2) We get back a legit CFer as part of the trade...a Rasmus level of player who's fallen out of favor and would still be under club control for 3-4 years. 3) If we give up that level of talent, we shouldn't pay more than $12-15 million of what's left on Rios' deal 4) If you subtract Quentin, you're not going to get enough offense out of Viciedo/DeAza and ??? (Milledge) unless we're getting other players back (CF/pitching/3B)
Balta1701
After this year yeah I'd rather go with Milledge/Alejandro/Viciedo as our of next year than anything involving rios.
caulfield12
Then we better get some offense out of 3B if we're going to roll with that kind of inexperience in the OF. I can't imagine strong season ticket renewals unless there's at least one significant improvement made somewhere coming into 2012.

Jerksticks
Man I want 3B fixed up for good instead of this "butcher in the field and possible max offense" type of player. Let's just get somebody to man it Kenny, whatever it takes. World Series can be taken this week.
