clyons
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-07...-discrimination From everything I've ever read and heard, the White Sox are a pretty progressive organization, and JR would not tolerate discrimination of this sort. One never knows without actual facts of course, but as someone who deals with these claims for a living, most are BS. Failure to promote claims are notoriously difficult to prove. Iwritecode
IIRC, Wal-Mart just had a suit like this against them and it was thrown out.
Kyyle23
Isnt the part that gets these cases thrown out usually proving that the "male" was less qualified?
StrangeSox
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) IIRC, Wal-Mart just had a suit like this against them and it was thrown out. Not exactly, they tried filing a class suit on behalf of every female employee of Walmart. The SC rejected the basis for a common class. Individuals are still free to file suit against Walmart, or to join in smaller, more coherent classes. It wasn't thrown out on lack of merit of the claims. clyons
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:05 AM) Isnt the part that gets these cases thrown out usually proving that the "male" was less qualified? That's a big part of it, but there also has to be at least some evidence (which can be circumstantial) that her sex was a motivating factor in being passed over. Courts don't like to second-guess an employer's business judgment.
dyuen
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) IIRC, Wal-Mart just had a suit like this against them and it was thrown out. incorrect, the wal-mart case was a class action that was determined not to be a class because the plaintiffs were not similarily situated. there was no ruling on the merits of the case
Harry Chappas
So at the grand old age of 25, 30 and 32 she was discriminated against.... Just from reading this. At age 25 and one year on the job she was passed over for a manager of partnerships position.......ok Then at the ripe old age of 30 and 32 she was passed up for a senior management position........ok Sounds like her father/attorney has some free time on his hands. When screwed over at your current job, do what your male co-workers do, get drunk and quit. Find another place to work.

Failure to promote claims are notoriously difficult to prove. there are a LOT of female sox employees. and they seem to move UP quite a bit. the lady who oversaw the 2003 ASG from the sox side was a ticket rep in 1996. 7 years from selling tickets to being a top exectutive overseeing a major operation(the 2003 ASG brought in a projected 53 million into the sox coffers). I say the claim's BS.

Dick Allen
QUOTE (Anderson Cooper's Quivering @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) The whitesox are a bunch of racists. Ignore the latin manager, black GM and jewish owner. I have no idea whether this suit has merit or not, but they aren't accused of being racists and the manager, GM and owner are all men. Full disclosure, I am married to a Labor/Employment Attorney, but she does represent management. Edited July 30, 2011 by Dick Allen
