Soxbadger
That doesnt make any sense. The complaint was that Sale/Thornton have been overused. The facts are as follows: Last 7 days. and vs lhb Sale 2.1 ip, .220 ba .588 Ohman 3.2 ip (not counting today), .225 ba 610 ops Thornton 3 ip, .317 740 So of the choices, Sale has the best stats against lefties and has been used the least. You have 4 outs to get to Santos and Sale has only pitched 2 innings in the last week. You have to bring in your best there. I could understand if the choice had been Ohman over Thornton, but Sale should have been used there. Edited August 10, 2011 by Soxbadger

He_Gawn
Honestly, when they go to that hitters view versus Sale, you can tell the hitter just has no f***in' clue what is coming. They have no chance against this guy right now. He is flat out disgusting and has a huge sack on him. Edited August 10, 2011 by He_Gawn
Soxbadger
The front of your bullpen has to get you some outs, of course. But if you are at 6 2/3 and you are going to bring in your best set up man in the 8th anyways, who has only pitched 2 innings in the last week and who used to be a starter, you let him go 1 and a 1/3 and call it a day. Due to the Sox slow start they have absolutely no margin for error. They just cant have the risk of that run scoring, because that may have been the last threat the Orioles have. Itd be one thing if it was the start of the 6th (no outs) or earlier. I just really think Ozzie is clueless when it comes to the pen, maybe one of the worst ive ever seen. Balta, They did use Ohman, but there is no rationale for not using Sale. The arguments that were presented was that Sale has been used to much, but the facts are that Sale was used least through today. Ohman has him by a full inning (in the last week). Just shows that Ozzie really has no idea whats going on. Edited August 10, 2011 by Soxbadger

Ohman has been pretty good too, much better than I thought he'd be.
Soxbadger
You cant go from one extreme to another. There are at least 100 good situations (if not up to 300) to use Ohman. But not today, because the Sox are on their first real winning streak and things are starting to trend up. While you are on this streak you have to use your best if they are available. There are going to be tie games when a lefty is up no one on, there are going to be games where we are down a run, games where we are far ahead. But today the Sox were up 1 run and it seemed to be slipping away. You (imo) have to go to your best and let the chips fall where they may. Probably would have let Sale go 1 1/3 today and potentially give him tomorrow off if hes not really needed.

Soxbadger
Oh I forgot, Ozzie some times wants to use Sale in the 9th so thats why he had to use Ohman earlier. Santos has been one of the most dominant closers and we treat him with bigger kid gloves than Will Oham, wtf.

Soxbadger
Well Ozzie wanted Sale to have Wieters bat righty then get Orioles to ph so that Santos would face a righty. Okay nm, he didnt put in Santos. No clue.
