southsider2k5
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) I still remember Harry Caray of all people waxing all giddy-like about the "very fine, young outfield of Bosley, Lemon, and Washington". I shared in that enthusiasm at the time, as it did seem promising. Wasn't meant to be, as it turned out! Oh man. Claudell Washington... Bad memories. gosox41
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) I really don't get all the love that is thrown on Rick Hahn? Is he not part of the front office that has this organization in shambles? Will he magically convince JR to start paying +slot money to build talent in the farm system? Does he have some connections in Latin America that will help the Sox starting acquiring some international talent? What makes him any different than his current boss? I am asking out of curiosity as many on this board seem to think he is the answer going forward. I would much rather have a guy that has experience in player development rather than a former agent who is good at negotiating contracts. I think he'd be better then Kenny because he seems like he would provide some sanity and direction to this team. Maybe it's more by bias against KW, but I see KW as more a narcisst who is always looking to make a big move to draw attention. His love of washed up veterans makes me sick. Just listening to Hahn talk, I get the impression he'd do things differently.. Bob

Balta1701
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) If the Angels job is basically the guy who takes the blame while Scioscia and Moreno make all the decisions, I hope he doesn't. Rick Hahn appears to think like me. White Sox assistant GM Rick Hahn never did interview for the Angels' GM position, which has been reported to be going to Diamondbacks assistant Jerry DiPoto. Hahn declined comment on his involvement but a baseball source said he explored it but it never was clear he would leave the White Sox. Hahn reportedly was concerned about how much authority an Angels GM would have with manager Mike Scioscia and owner Arte Moreno both known to involve themselves in front office decisions. At one point in this process, Scioscia even reached out to his old bench coach, Joe Maddon, to see if he was interested in leaving the Rays to pursue the GM's job. Former White Sox assistants Dan Evans and Kim Ng did get interviews. Evans, who most recently has worked as a player agent, would be a good addition to Epstein's staff in some capacity as he is a Chicago native with the type of generational knowledge on Wrigley Field that Epstein had on Fenway when he took over the Red Sox. Just listening to Hahn talk, I get the impression he'd do things differently.. Bob Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, Reisnsdorf loves to draw upon his success (7 titles) as vindication of his clunky hiring decisions. Jerry is wealthy and powerful beyond imagination, and it's his way or the highway. Even 90+losses the next few years will not budge Kenny from his position. My advice, enjoy the DVDs from 2005 and hope that Dunn and Rios find some semblance of what they did in the past. C'mon, does Evans having worked in Chicago really matter THAT much? By that definition, Kim Ng would be just as good a hire...or anyone familiar with Chicago, for that matter. Heck, they might as well hire Bill Rancic from The Apprentice, and Guiliana.

Dick Allen
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 1, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman dont see rick hahn, ingrained w/ white sox, going to hou. among others whod make sense: baird, watson, white, coppolella. I really have no idea if Rick Hahn is anywhere near the hotshot GM in waiting a lot of people claim he is, but he is doing a wise thing passing on a lot of these jobs. Most of them appear to be career enders.
Balta1701
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 30, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) Evans, who most recently has worked as a player agent, would be a good addition to Epstein's staff in some capacity as he is a Chicago native with the type of generational knowledge on Wrigley Field that Epstein had on Fenway when he took over the Red Sox. Heck, they might as well hire Bill Rancic from The Apprentice, and Guiliana. A lot of people think that "playing in Wrigley Field" is one issue that really hurts the Cubs, from the number of day games to the lack of modern facilities. So, having a guy who has already seen the type of people who succeed and fail in Wrigley would be a good benefit.
