Offense+Pitching=Win.

Our best played game this season? Maybe except for the two errors. Maybe there was a better played game by us in Boston. However, this has to be our best game in the while. We beat a good team with a strong offense 10 to nil. Impressive win.

De Aza and Flowers have been hitting since called up. Pierre now has 39 RBIs ..that is impressive after his slow start.

Does anyone hear a tree falling in the forest?

Well...as soon as it's 3 or 3 1/2 GB again, some of the newly-lost fans (plus the football fanatics and back-to-schoolers) might come back.

Once again, the consistency thing. Back and forth like a yo-yo or ping pong ball.

Hard to get excited about any streaks unless it reaches 4-5 games.

My math...

The Sox have to go 22-14, including 5-1 vs the Tigers to tie.

If that's the scenario, it's gonna be tough, the kittens would have to have a meltdown like they did a few years ago when the Twinkies caught them in the last week.

Yup.

It is really stacked against the Sox. For starters, we're asking a team that hasnt been more than a game over .500 in months to at minimum be 8 over for the last 36 games. And even if that is to somehow happen, we need the Tigers to choke it away against bad teams.

Funny hearing Chuck's comment that the White Sox' lineup was without a lot of power today on the pregame show...:)

This is a fun little team to watch when De Aza and Flowers are hitting like they are...especially with Alex starting to hit...

Looks like we have some young players that might be able to contribute some things we weren't necessarily counting on...

The sad thing is, Rios only has a .675 OPS in August.

By any reasonable standard he's not "starting to hit". By the standard of the .383 OPS he put up in July though...

Yet, if this was Brent Morel's numbers we were talking about, you would be shouting from a mountaintop about him and spinning them any which way you could.

Anyone that is watching the f***ing game can see Alex is hitting now. He's hitting balls hard. After an initial hot streak in Baltimore, he cooled off again (and hit some ropes that were caught), but has started to get some big hits for our Club again.

I don't give a flying f*** what his OPS is in August. We're starting to get some production out of him, along with some big clutch extra base hits, which is what we need right now.

He's not going to morph into Albert Pujols over night, but getting some production out of him versus the production we were getting out of him actually gives us a chance to compete down the stretch.

Because 1 guy is getting paid 22x the salary of the other guy, and therefore the more expensive guy was needed to fill a much more important role. And the more expensive guy has also not been a great fielder.

Let me ask you this question:

Does Alex Rios' salary make his hits count any more or less than Brent Morel's right now?

We need to win games. Now.

Getting big hits out of Alex (and theoretically Dunn as well, although I am starting to believe this is actually impossible) goes a long, long way towards us winning said games.

Now would be the perfect time to DL Dunn for the season and call up Viciedo. Let Lillibridge play 1B and Paulie DH this week. Then Sept 1, we could bring up another backup 1B just for insurance.

Not sure how to get Viciedo in the mix, but getting Dunn out of the mix would be the key. lol! Maybe when Paulie feels better to play some 1B, then Viciedo to DH? But there is no timetable of Paulie getting back to playing 1B.

Something to consider...Detroit hasn't had a winning second half (after All Star break) since 2000. I have them at 19-15 in second half so far. They also have been in first place in Sept of 2006 and 2009 but didn't win the division. Tigers have never won the AL Central (realignment in 1998)....

guess we just have to hang in (all-in) there and see what happens

Crazy question here......is there a data source that tracks how many times a team has scored the most runs in a day in MLB? I see today we led the league in runs and also know that on opening day we did as well. Just curious to weenie many other times we've done that. Also, what team has done it the most times.
