Balta1701
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) And with better coaching/adjustments, Beckham/Stewart/Hudson's issues were/are easily fixable. However, too many stubborn people in Sox organization. I don't remember many people saying Danks stuff wasn't that good either. And yet, earlier in this thread you said that Stewart's stuff wasn't impressive.
fathom
And balta, Beckham/Hudson/Floyd/Danks all showed potential to at least be average players in the majors when they were younger. Morel just seems far too weak to be a starting third baseman in the majors. To me, seems like you're putting your team at a big disadvantage to be lacking pop at a corner infield position. It's not, as I said yesterday they need to have him scrap that terrible slip pitch he throws and just work on being a sinker pitcher (aka Jon Garland). There's still no physical reason why Morel can't be a 15-20 HR a year guy once he learns how to be a big league hitter.

I'd love to know the pitch selection breakdown from Garland's good years. I don't recall him throwing more a ton of sliders.

I don't recall him throwing more a ton of sliders. Pitch FX has him at 60-65 % fastballs (2 and 4 seam) every year since 2007 (first year of data). fathom
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 08:08 PM) swing and a miss. Oh please...hitting like a pansy = being scared to strike out and just going up there just trying to make soft contact. The Sox have very conservative announcers when it comes to ripping on their own. Sounds like they're trying to get through to Morel. Clearly you're still not getting it. Both DJ and Melton are saying he's stronger than what he's showed. You're contending that he's not strong enough to play the position in the first place. Neither of them agree with you.

Lillian
Finally. A nice at bat for Rios. Good for him. It's about time he came through. I wasn't watching the game, but listening, and didn't realize there was a lefty pitching. I thought the RHP was still in there. That makes the suggestion to pinch hit de Aza for Rios not valid. The Ginger Kid
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) That's the Rios of 2010 I know i've said it too many times, but when I was in glendale this spring the dude was absolutely destroying the ball. Just seemed like a no-brainer that he would at least be decent this year. Not to be.
