Marty34
QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 05:39 PM) I have a real hard time blaming KW for the production of Dunn and the injury to Peavy. Then no changes should be made. No one is to blame here.

fathom
QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 10:39 PM) I have a real hard time blaming KW for the production of Dunn and the injury to Peavy. He acquired Peavy when he had the ankle injury, and it seems everyone is blaming the ankle injury for the subsequent shoulder/back injury. So yes, KW took a huge risk with Peavy's ankle issue being no big deal, and it resulted in basically the beginning of the end for Peavy. elrockinMT
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 11:43 PM) I agree. But Rios was a risk and he is paying the price, and the Jackson/Hudson deal was bad from the start. I definitely blame him for that. And the Teahen extension. And the poor situation on the farm, though there are outside factors there. I personally feel its pretty clear that Ozzie is more at fault here than KW, but that doesn't mean Kenny doesn't share some of the blame. 2 out of three I certainly agree with you on. Not certain about Rios as no players were involved, but we took on a lot of money for a failing player for sure. The trade for Hudson is a head scratcher and the trade period for Teahan made no sense to me at the time. We could have kept Juan Uribe for thirdbase if nothing else. Well, Sox mentioned it last year. Peavy said he developed bad habits in those glorious, ever-important three starts in 2009, and that the habits rolled over into 2010 where his mechanics put more stress than usual on his body. kitekrazy
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) So you honestly believe that KW has or had the authority to fire Ozzie and hasn't done so already? I think it's clear that Reinsdorf is not letting his GM have full control of a decision that should rightfully be his. Maybe money is the driving factor here, but I have no doubt in my mind that KW would hire a new manager if he could. Unfortunately, we now have to deal with his and Ozzie's bulls*** until Reinsdorf lets one or both of them go. That's not way it should work, and if KW had a power that most GMs have, we probably wouldn't be dealing with nonsense right now. So if you want force a veteran manager who also happens to be one of Reinsdorf's buddies on a rookie GM, then I hope you're willing to accept another manager having more influence in the organization than he should really have. I don't think it's clear at all. It's speculation fueled by fans and media.
kitekrazy
QUOTE (chisoxt @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) No...the right'JR feel' is that he passes over Hahn for another candidate that no one esle has thought of. Given his love for LaRussa and the fact that Tony has got to be tired of managing, I wonder if the Chariman hires LaRussa for GM? An awful move, but something to consider. Which could point to JR being a bigger problem than Kenny or Ozzie. I have speculated that since KW took over, the farm system has gotten worse. That could also be JRs doing by being loyal to friends over competent people in areas of scouting and instruction. Which would bring us back to Kenny not being in charge. kitekrazy
QUOTE (SI1020 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) The Chairman intervenes behind the scenes on a lot of issues and KW wanted Cito Gaston, not Ozzie. Rios and Teahan are the reactions for failed prospects such as BA and Fields. Fields was replaced by Beckham which some argue was brought up too early. Then Teahen is replaced by Old man Omar. The farm system failed and who knows what you are going to get with Morel. I do think it is time to test a new hitting coach.
South Side Fireworks Man
The other day when Ozzie was trying to backtrack a bit after being criticized for bringing up his contract at this point in time, he said that he wouldn't ask Jerry for an extension right now. Notice he said Jerry, not Kenny. That is a good indicator of the way JR runs this dysfunctional organization. SI1020
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 12:25 AM) That is a huuuuuuuuuuuuge leap to make from ankle injury to a detached lat muscle, sorry. If a pitcher has a leg, ankle or foot injury he often changes his throwing mechanics to compensate. It can have disastrous results. Read about old time great Dizzy Dean. I don't know if this is what happened to Peavy or not but it's not as far fetched as you might think. Dean's injury
Dick Allen
I wonder if Greg and Marty and Joe and Oney realize Ozzie has averaged less than 2 wins a season more than Jerry Manuel and Manuel never had a team ranked as high in total payroll as Ozzie's lowest ranked payroll team. Good riddance Ozzie.

Dick Allen
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 08:12 PM) What's the comparison between Williams and Schuler? Similar if not worse for Williams. What's interesting is Schueler's best players were left by Himes. KW's best players were leftovers from Schueler. I think Schueler's teams averaged about a win a or 2 a season more if you take into account the strike year and prorate it. Schueler also became very afraid to spend JRs cash. KW has no problem in that department. Schueler wasn't fired though. Manuel was. They both have to go. A clean break, a fresh start. Everyone mentions how loyal JR is. Well, he's more loyal to his partners than anyone else. They can't be happy with the product they paid for. whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) Would Hahn spurn the Sox offer and take Cubs job instead? Yes, unless Kenny and Ozzie are both fired. I don't think Hahn would take the Sox job over the Cubs if he's forced to keep Ozzie or if Kenny is kept as a President type (or both). If both are fired and Hahn is given free reign, I think he'd stay here as GM instead of going to the Cubs as a sign of loyalty. I still don't think the Cubs will even offer Hahn their GM job though.
