Balta1701
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) Anderson couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat... that's your other option. And I was a Anderson fan, btw. And I'll go to my grave saying that this team wins the 2006 AL Central if Anderson was treated as the everyday starter and not benched for Mackowiak starting in game 2 of the season. Jordan4life_2007
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 10:06 AM) its funny how everyone thinks its that simple. dunn blows and its may, june now july, dont play him. he clearly had to. just like the cubs with soriano and the giants with zito, etc. we arent there to see what ozzie is being told by jerry/kw. and just becuase kw comes out and says play whoever you want doesnt matter the money, yea i dont buy that. im sure ozzie would have loved to bench dunn in may. When has Soriano ever been as bad as '11 Dunn? When has anybody ever been as bad as '11 Dunn? Barry Zito gets lambasted because he's getting paid like an ace when he's anything but. But he's still been, for the most part, a league-average pitcher during his time with the Giants. Adam Dunn defies explanation. He's quite possibly had the worst season of any pro athlete in any sport. I'm not sure how in touch you are with advanced metrics. Do you realize how bad you have to be to sport a -2.7 WAR? And to have him hit clean-up as often as he did? Failure! That's like running me out there intoxicated. That's like Della Reese entering a Miss America Pageant. You know something bad is going to happen. I don't care if Dunn was making minimum wage. He should not have been playing anywhere near as much as he was. That's all on Ozzie. I must agree. The '06 offense was potent enough to overcome the automatic out that was Brian Anderson as long as he took care of business in CF. Mackowiak should've been platooning in LF with Podsednik, who was April Juan Pierre bad for most of the second-half of that season.

EDIT: I take that back.. I alternate, I wear that and My signed Jose Canceso jersey and my New York Yankee Darryl Strawberry Jersey's... To my Fantasy Baseball Drafts! The one thing Anderson could do was field. He was having a Franklin Gutierrez worthy season with the glove in 2006 despite playing only 1/2 the time. By the time the 2nd half of the season rolled around, "Anderson would have had it" was code for "a lazy fly ball to CF". Every damn time Mack was in CF, it was 1-3 runs given up. Every bloody time. And usually the ball he'd misplay would turn into extra bases, and a longer inning for the starter, and a couple earned runs for the starter since OF's never get charged for errors when they simply don't get to a ball that they ought to. I'll go to my grave saying that deciding Mackowiak was a platoon CF by day 2 of the regular season and keeping it that way the whole year cost the Sox that division. I know UZR/win shares don't show it, but that's just how incredibly bad Mackowiak was out there. There might have been a game that season where he didn't cost them a run, but that's it. There are a few people here that have been around MUCH longer than two weeks and seem to have this illusion that we despise Ozzie (I know I do) and absolve KW of any blame for the current mess. That sounds about right. All we have to go off of is what we are told by the team and the writers. We were told that KW said to play the best players, regardless of salary. Since that makes Ozzie look a little worse, you make up a scenario. Awesome.

I mean did KW really go to Ozzie and say "I'm going to go to the media and publicly say that you need to play the best players no matter their salary but in reality I want you to continue to play Rios and Dunn even though I know they are statistically the worst 2 players in MLB right now. They cost way too much to just sit on the bench. They need to be on the field even if it costs the team wins."
