Cali
I'm sure you know this, but realize that at a concert, bands don't just play their new songs. Like on their current tour, Metallica is playing just 2 songs from their new album. For the most part, it's all stuff from the 80's, and they're playing it as well as they ever have. So if you're including everything in their "act", there's nobody that can touch Metallica IMO. Oh yeah I know concerts are different. I'm talking about this from a purely recorded music stand point. I wonder if their decision to play less St. Anger songs was more because they think the fans want to hear more old stuff, or less St. Anger? Soxplosion
Well, you're right about Metallica being awesome, but I disagree that St. Anger and I Disappear are their best songs. But, unlike The Critic, I am going to allow you to have your own opinion. Everyone has a different taste for music, and I am willing to respect that. Critic, on the other hand, calls someone a "sheep" for liking their current music, and says Metallica is now "irrelevant", simply because he does not prefer their "new" style. What would you say are their best songs? I have to admit, I havent heard a ton of their songs. Im the kinda guy who hears a good song, buys it on CD with 20 other songs from the same band and then listens to just that one song. Im very picky in music. There are bad songs, songs I like as background music in a car or room, and then songs I sit there and concentrate in on. There are only like 7 total songs from that last group. Im also not the kinda guy who would go to a concert. Because unless you have one of the few songs, music to me is only a background thing. I love to listen to music while I read, sleep, run or something, but unless its one of my elite favorites, I dont sit and listen to it... clujer420
If the crowd size is what makes an event, how come you aren't a Cubs fan? Yeah, it is the product on the field that matters, not the amount of lemmings who take it in. My reason for pointing out the crowd size was to show that there are MANY people who still find Metallica very relevant and still think they are great musicians. Everyone in LA was there for 1 reason, and we all got our money's worth. And yes, it's the product "on the field" that matters most, and during every song, there were 70,000 people singing along, and after each song, there was deafening cheer, so I'd say it was a successful night for the old men. Cali
Yeah That's why I said "right now" Metallica is hardly playing the Metal they played 15 years ago. the bands I listed are a better act because they have a more Metal style than the Metallica now a days. Also most of the bands I listed weren't around 15-20 years ago anyway Limp bizkit is "louder" than Radio head. The talent isnt comparable. Radiohead is an awesome band and limp bizkit sucks.................. I see you added something to your post. Like I said, I like Metal more than any other form of music. I was just saying that those bands I listed we're better at putting out a Metal album than the Metallica of right now. I was not saying that they could put out an album that was better than anything else out there. It's not fair to compare, say a Killswitch Engage album to a U2 album, it's two completely different genres. And on a side note, both Opeth and Meshuggah are INSANELY talented musicians, it's just that they put it into a less than easily accessable form of music. If you're open-minded, and I stress that a lot, and know anything about music(that's not an insult, even though it's worded so) give them a listen, you should be able to tell that they have talent. clujer420
Oh yeah I know concerts are different. I'm talking about this from a purely recorded music stand point. I wonder if their decision to play less St. Anger songs was more because they think the fans want to hear more old stuff, or less St. Anger? I don't know what they base their decisions on. Probably what songs they like most and which ones they can play best, I would guess. To be honest, they need some more work on St. Anger and Frantic. They just didn't sound as good as the others. Given that it IS new, though, I suppose that's to be expected somewhat. The fans, though, were WAY into them, and it seemed like we all knew the words (since everyone was singing), so to me that's a sign that it's well-liked. The most songs they played from any of their albums was 3 (Master of Puppets and The Black Album), and the only album they didn't touch (save Garage Inc) was Load. I kind of wish they had played Hero of the Day, but I guess the slow song of the night was reserved for Nothing Else Matters (which was one of the highlights of the night, as everyone was singing, and since it's not a loud song, you could hear us more than James -- very cool stuff).
