southsider2k5
QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:02 AM) Could be dicey if we win Wed (which means Toronto loses) and Cleveland loses. Then it depends on tiebreakers, but if we fall out of the bottom 15, Kenny figures to give away the pick. We are not going to sign a Type A free agent. ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) We are not going to sign a Type A free agent. You don't know that. Kenny could pursue a reliever, or find someone to take Rios.

southsider2k5
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) You don't know that. Kenny could pursue a reliever, or find someone to take Rios. We have a metric s***-ton of minor league relievers and a full bullpen. Even if we trade Thornton and promote Sale to the starting ranks, we have guys like Stewart, Reed, and Axelrod fighting for spots, not to mention someone like Infante, Lindsay, Kinney or Santiago. Even if they do decide they want to bring in relievers, they are not going to be in a position to add a guy for $3-$4 million a year that a Type A free agent would demand. Odds are they invite a mess of guys they sign to minor league deals and see if they can catch another diamond in the rough for Cooper. In the outfield the would have to move both Rios and Quentin, plus decide that Lillibridge wasn't going to get a chance to play every day, on top of deciding at they had millions of dollars to spend on a Type A guy. Yeah, I am going to say I know the Sox aren't signing a Type A OF or RP.
DirtySox
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) Yeah, I am going to say I know the Sox aren't signing a Type A OF or RP. I would agree fully. I'm indifferent to the pick protection aspect this year. I'd just much rather have the 13th pick versus the 17th. flavum
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) We want the Reds and Nats to win as well. The Nats and Dodgers playing only 161 could mess things up.
fathom
A loss today locks up the 13th pick for the Sox, I believe.

(I'm only half-kidding - I honestly don't care, but 13th would be better than 17th) Edited September 28, 2011 by dasox24

fathom
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) Reds lose. No bueno. Go figure...all Sox had to do is lose one game this series.
DirtySox
If the Sox go ahead and win, they drop to the 15th pick, with the possibility of falling to 17th depending on if Cleveland and Washington win or lose later today. I might be wrong though. Someone double check my work.
DirtySox
Just aced my job interview, Sox get the 13th pick, and now I'm going drinking. Today is a good day.

Yeah, I am going to say I know the Sox aren't signing a Type A OF or RP. I wasn't suggesting him signing an OF, I just meant losing Rios would clear more money for a Type-A free agent. But anyway, it's interesting to find someone who thinks Kenny is so predictable.
SoxAce
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) Just aced my job interview, Sox get the 13th pick, and now I'm going drinking. Today is a good day. Same exact pick that Chris Sale fell into the sox lap when we made their selection in 2010. (and thank god the right pick was made as he was a projected top 5 pick) Hopefully we strike gold twice in next year's draft.
