Balta1701
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) Coop must've had a similar offer from Florida waiting. No, but he probably had one from New York if he wanted it.
Wanne
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) Baines should not stay. I still have yet to see what it is that he actually does. me neither...
Marty34
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) No, but he probably had one from New York if he wanted it. Coop would prefer the anonymity of the Marlins to the red hot spotlight of the Yankees.
greg775
You'd have to think the new manager knows Cooper or else this makes no sense. Pitching coach is pretty important position. This should give us a big hint. Does Alomar know Cooper well? Yes would be the answer.
NorthSideSox72
I agree with Balta. Extending Cooper was, I think, a necessity. But also Baines? That seems odd, because I'd think you'd want the new manager to have as many choices as possible outside of Coop. And I doubt they have made a decision already and talked to that person - Bell has said no, so the only internal guy on anyone's radar is McEwing. The other guys, I think they aren't even allowed to talk with yet.
Balta1701
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) Coop would prefer the anonymity of the Marlins to the red hot spotlight of the Yankees. Again, how do you know this? There have been reports connecting him to the Yankees for years. Hell, he gets interviewed on radio in the 3rd largest city in the country and just signed a 4 year deal to stay there.

whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) Didn't Cooper grow up a HUGE Yankees fan? I'm rather amazed he hasn't gone back there to be honest. He's very loyal to our organization.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:29 PM) That's a relief. Every other name I've heard mentioned so far, I'd be fine with. There's a long list of things that need to be fixed beyond the manager, and we at least need to get this move right. I think anyone other than Alomar Jr. would be an upset. Dick Allen
QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) If I was Coop, I'd turn it down until I knew who my new boss would be. He probably has a pretty good idea.

Dick Allen
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:37 PM) JR? True that's his real boss, but I'm sure they have let him and Harold know what is going on, and I'm sure if they have been told the likelihood of who it will be. There have been reports connecting him to the Yankees for years. Hell, he gets interviewed on radio in the 3rd largest city in the country and just signed a 4 year deal to stay there. Pitching coach for the Yankees comes with intense scrutiny. Coop doesn't want that all things being reasonably close to equal.
Soxfest
Do not understand the rush to give Baines a multi-year deal. He was not going anywhere else. Walker must feel like a sore thumb the next 2 nights and he deserves every minute of it. Edited September 27, 2011 by Soxfest

JohnCangelosi
KW seems to want someone he can control as his new manager, so to me this just signifies the new guy in will be a "yes man" to KW, which totally sucks. I am already deflated hearing this news and what this really means
