Al Lopez's Ghost
spiegs was at the game last night in a suite with the guy who owns Aurelios pizza. Pizza guy carried the lineup card to the plate. He said Cox said Yeah, I got one more game and then Sandy will be here. FWIW.
BigSqwert
So I take it they're not even going to interview candidates? Who's running the show?
Swingandalongonetoleft
Any reason in particular that Sandy Alomar Jr. is going to get this job? My preference was Dave Martinez, but if the qualifications are "was a catcher for the White Sox" then f***ing give it to Corky Miller. Do not want. GoSox05
They should make Jeff Cox the manager.
Kyyle23
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 09:22 AM) So I take it they're not even going to interview candidates? Who's running the show? The "interviews" could have taken place yesterday. The Marlins interviewed 3 guys before they hired Ozzie yesterday so they could be in compliance. They are sham interviews, but they happen
Buehrle>Wood
Cox is often a joker, it should be noted... Still wouldn't mind the hire though.

I don't know whether to be sarcastic and call this thread a joke, or to absolutely love the fact that the internet spreads information like this. I'll go with just enjoying it. lasttriptotulsa
My preference would be Dave Martinez, but I wouldn't have a problem giving Sandy a shot.
JorgeFabregas
Maybe Cox was saying that he will be replaced by Alomar.

That would be interesting. Sandy as either the 3B coach or bench coach with Martinez.

fathom
People have no idea what type of coach Sandy Alomar Jr. will be. Acta is a pretty impressive manager, so he's had some quality experience in Cleveland. You know who would have been a brutal hire? Ryan Sandberg

I do not follow Ryno's managerial career and have no idea if he would or would not be a good choice. Just curious to hear your reasoning. I'll hang up and listen. Thanks. flavum
Alomar makes a lot of sense. I like the idea of a former catcher managing. The Maddon connection with Martinez is appealing, but I'm on board with Sandy, Jr. taking over.
BigSqwert
I'd much rather have Martinez. Sandy seems like a quite version of Ozzie, a manager that goes with his gut. I want someone who uses statistics to make better decisions.

Sandy seems like a quite version of Ozzie, a manager that goes with his gut. I want someone who uses statistics to make better decisions. I would think a former catcher has a statistical background. I said this in another thread, I always found former catchers to be very intriguing as managers. Part of that is Scioscia being a personal favorite of mine however.
