No matter who they hire they arent going to draw much after this season. I am cancelling after 9 years and I am sure more are on that boat.

Sorry rock, I was being sarcastic. Winning draws fans, end of story. Kim Kardashian could be our manager, and I doubt you'd see a significant attendance increase.

It's a complete rebuilding phase while paying out Dunn and Rios and using Paulie as the fan draw ... Manager not going to mean much for the next few years

The bad contracts are partially mitigated by the promise of De Aza/Flowers/Viciedo. Production from those guys plus a creative/smart addition to the roster and we are back on track.

A manager can still matter. Foremost of course is that he not be a total idiot, but then getting past that...there is still something at stake in 2012, especially in a division like ours.

I would add Morel to that hopeful list.

You have several low cost alternatives stepping in for more expensive players

Santiago-Thornton

Viciedo-Quentin

De Aza-Pierre

Sale-Danks

Stewart/Axelrod-Floyd

Flowers-Hopefully AJ, at least Castro

I like the idea of Alomar as a manager, he has been around baseball his entire life. The thing that concerns me is that he could be Jerry Manuel all over again. I think he is a good option and worthy of getting a shot.

I also think the Sox have no shot at Davey Martinez. He will be holding out for a more lucrative and high profile job than the Sox can/will offer.

Can't that be said about basically anyone in baseball?

So that gives Buehle/Floyd/Peavy/Sale/Humber as the starters? Danks goes, and no spots for Axelrod or Stewart, except maybe the pen?

I posted in the other thread, I think they deal both and put Stewart or Axelrod in the other spot. Our pen actually fills out nicely still.

I wouldn't mind Stewart starting the season at AAA if they intend to keep him a starter. He's been in the bullpen already in his career and Toronto spent a lot of time working to undo that while making him a starter. A year in the bullpen is a worse step back for him than it was for Sale.

Possibly. WHen I was making up the Pen in the rebuild thread I was actually kind of surprised how well it rounded out with young pieces. I suspect Reed, Santiago and maybe Lindsay could all contribute next season.

You know my opinion on this..he needs to be in AAA to start the year to prove he can actually retire hitters without giving up a ton of hits and be able to keep his minor league ERA below 4.
