ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) According to Knobler and a few others on MLB radio.. The Sox are very interested in Cespedes now. Good. I was hoping they would at least make some effort there.

caulfield12
I looks forward to teams paying 50-60 Mil, from a 32-33 year old outfielder who has to start out in A ball, and at his best is an .850 OPS Player. Sounds like the right move from them Orioles, Laughing at this random comment in the Cespedes thread at MLBtraderumors. A 50 inch vertical tops Jordan by an inch or so. caulfield12
Would have to guess they're going to wait and see how things play out with Viciedo and Aroldis Chapman before they invest $30+ million in another Latin American player. We really don't need another outfielder right now, unless he's a pure centerfielder and true leadoff hitter. And those guys have been elusive for CF ever since he became the GM. How the hell would he affect us?
hi8is
The White Sox, who have a strong track record with Cuban defectors Alexei Ramirez and Dayan Viciedo, reportedly held a private workout for Cespedes.
Springfield Soxfan
That is really surprising, but it would make sense if we start dumping salary though. Remember we offered Fukodome over $50 million to sign with us.

We have Viciedo and Rios and Quentin, with Quentin likely to be traded. Unless you really want to go in to the season with a De Aza-Rios-Viciedo outfield. For me, I expect De Aza and Rios to be platooning for most of the year.

SOXOBAMA
I like to see RF Cespedes CF Adam Jones ( trade Floyd) LF Rios I want the best defensive team on the field because of our young pitching.. I would DH Viciedo part time and the other half in the OF I am not a big fan of De Aza Edited December 21, 2011 by SOXOBAMA

Still, I'd rather platoon Rios than platoon Dunn, at least initially since I feel Dunn has a much better chance of a rebound than Rios does. What did Dayan do to some of these people? I'm as cynical as they come. But Jesus. Viciedo is exactly the type of player we need to be building around right now. ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 12:37 AM) Viciedo will be great on this team as a part time DH/4th OF. I am all about pitching and defense. How are you discrediting Dayan as an OF already? He seemed to do fine in RF after his call-up, and it's assumed he will only improve from here. As a fan of a team who employed Jermaine Dye and Carlos Quentin in RF for the better part of a decade, I am surprised your defensive standards would be so high for a RF, especially one who has a great arm and the potential to be a huge offensive weapon. Viciedo needs to be in the OF until he proves he can't. So far, he hasn't had the chance.

ChiliIrishHammock24
Something interesting I just noticed whilst talking to my Cubs friend..... Peavy and Rios are pretty much our south side equals to Zambrano and Soriano. Our duo will cost us $29M in 2012, and put up a 2.2 combined WAR in 2011. Their duo will cost them $36M in 2012, and also put up a 2.2 combined WAR in 2011. Just something depressingly interesting I thought I would share. caulfield12
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 11:37 PM) Viciedo will be great on this team as a part time DH/4th OF. I am all about pitching and defense. Not in USCF. Remember, the Mariners already tried this model and it failed miserably because of the lack of offense. Viciedo, without Quentin in the line-up and with Konerko due for a down season, simply has to be in the everyday line-up. The MAIN reason we failed this year was offense...with the exception of Pierre (who was supposed to give us at least decent defense).
