southsider2k5
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) Literally the only person who thinks trading Alexei is a good idea is Marty, there is no chance the Sox trade a very good cheap SS right now, zero chance. Jordan4life_2007
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) Rebuild around them. I've written it in other threads so I won't bother everybody by doing it again. Rebuilding this mess will be a daunting enough task as it is. But sweet f***ing jesus christ. You want to trade Ramirez, Santos and just about our entire starting staff, sign Scott Kazmir, and build around a guy that just hit .159, a perennial lazy, underachieving bum and Jake Prior? This would be the worst rebuild ever if you were in charge.

iamshack
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) Didn't you agree with my idea for rebuilding not too long ago? There's absolutely no point to rebuilding now. People need to think about things from a business sense once in a while... Let's see...you've leased 3 movie screens for 2 years and you've realized that they have more technical problems than the owner let on, but for whatever reason you didn't protect yourself in your lease for this possibility. Your options are the following: 1) Continue to pay the lease and make the necessary further investment to operate a suitable movie theater and have the possibility of making a nice profit; 2) Re-lease the movie screens for pennies on the dollar, and sell popcorn at your theater while providing no movies for patrons to watch, meanwhile being liable for the expensive price you originally leased the movie screens for; or 3) Show movies on the screens in their current condition, which prohibits you from showing first run movies, and ensures you take a hefty loss. Meanwhile, you begin selling all your relatively good equipment for unpopped popcorn kernals to be used at some future date.

chw42
Escobar as a top prospect is an absolute joke. He might be Alcides Escobar at best.

chw42
QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) He is only 22 years old. Why is everyone so down on him? He has no power, no ability to get on base. Great defense is a plus, but that only gets you so far, even if it's at the SS position.

Lets say he never develops serious power, seems like people are still assuming he won't develop any more plate discipline either?

Lets say he never develops serious power, seems like people are still assuming he won't develop any more plate discipline either? Having a guy that can be Alcides Escobar isn't all bad. But if your top prospect's ceiling is a 2 win SS, that's pretty damn bad. Edited October 4, 2011 by chw42

NorthSideSox72
Sox system is one of the worst, though probably not THE worst... that said, Escobar is on no planet the best prospect in the system. The prospect lists put out by the team's marketing area should not be taken to be an actual top prospects list. It serves other purposes. FutureSox will publish our Top 25 again sometime in like November, around the end of AFL.
witesoxfan
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) More likely trying to pave the way for a Ramirez trade. Atleast you back up your statements with reasons, absurd as they are. You're still crazy as hell.
Eminor3rd
According to this list, Josh Vitters is the fourth AND tenth best 3B prospect in the majors. I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

Balta1701
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) Kenny to sign him to a 5 year $125mil deal then? You know, usually there needs to be a grain of truth to a joke for it to have a modicum of humor. This does not. If Kenny spends money on anything, it's on old power guys, not young guys who can field but can't hit. You know who really loves speedy guys who can't hit? Ozzie Guillen. Very true, he is much too young for Kenny, give him 12-15 more years.. then the big money deal.
