GASHWOUND
Day off work today and sittin' here at 2:15 am researching. Well..anyways..I'm getting a new computer next month and I want to get one for LESS than $800 bucks for everything. But most likely less than $750 for everything..When I took my computer courses at IUN a few months ago the teacher gave me a place to shop(tigerdirect.com) and said they sell good ones there for great prices...well, got the backstory outa the way.. I was lookin and found this one which looks pretty good http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...u=SYX-XP-035981 But I don't know s***, so I was wondering if its good or what? I aint lookin for some super-computer s***, it ain like I'm gonna be makin CGI s*** or whatever. How 'bout you Ian watcha ya think? You seem to know your s*** Also am thinkin this monitor to go with it ithttp://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?sku=D100-1720 s***..I say s*** alot, don't I:D

bjmarte
You are getting a pretty decent box for that price. I bought a computer from this company when I was in school five or six years ago. I held up well and served as my main computer until just this past summer. They are not known for using top of the line components but there is nothing inherently wrong with the components they do use. The only thing you should be aware of is that you probably won't be getting alot of software at that price. It doesn't say what you will be getting but my guess is if you get any productivity software it will be either Corel or Microsoft Works, not Microsoft Office. You can always get a copy of Star Office to keep from spending too much more money if you need that kind of software.
Chisoxfn
Check out this site too, www.gotapex.com and look under deals, sometimes they have great prices on computers. I know I found a deal on a Dell for the company I worked for, a while back for 500 bucks thats 2 ghz, and pretty nice. That site you are on looks like they are pretty good too though. The setup looks really nice and looks like quite the deal. You have a ton of ram in it, plenty of speed, a cdrw that can fly.
Cerbaho-WG
Don't buy Dell, Gateway, or anyone mainstream. The computer isn't too shabby, but if you want to upgrade that, you would want a new motherboard. The Front Side Bus supports CPU's of 266 MHZ, which is good, but the video only supports 32 MB, which is complete crap now-a-days. But, for a general purpose PC, it's not bad. I guess that's what I mean by this company not using top of the line components. Not that they are going to blow up or anything they just don't always support the fastest or the greatest. Believe me though Gash, you won't ever know the difference unless you wake up one day and decide to upgrade the memory on your video card, and my guess is you won't. My guess is too that by the time start thinking about doing any upgrading it will be just about time for a new computer.
LDF
first of all, i have had problems with tigerdirect. i still haven't recieve a part that was screwed up it been over a yr. i would not trust them with a 10 ft pole. their quality has gone down big time. second, my best recommenddation is to build your computer. avoid pentium 4 and go with amd. they are better across the board. avoid hp b/c they are having some majpr proble in the last 1/2 yr with their mother board and hard drives. when you get your software installed. immediately update your windows. xp home edtion is having some problems and locking out people, mostly in hp. you can have a top rated puter built for around 800- 900 dollars. get a plextar crw.
