southsider2k5
http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/...an-diego-padres Source: Greg Walker, Braves to talk By Bruce Levine ESPNChicago.com Archive Former Chicago White Sox hitting coach Greg Walker will interview for vacancies in the same role with the Atlanta Braves and the San Diego Padres during the next week, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Walker resigned his position with the White Sox at the end of the 2010 season. The 52-year-old Georgia was the White Sox hitting coach for 8½ seasons after being promoted from Triple-A Charlotte in May 2003. Walker was the hitting coach in Charlotte from 2002 until he was promoted. The 52-year-old Georgia native was under fire the last two seasons due to season-long hitting slumps for Gordon Beckham and the struggles of Alex Rios and Adam Dunn in 2011. Walker played nine seasons (1982-1990) with the White Sox and part of one year (1990) with the Baltimore Orioles, hitting .260 with 113 home runs and 444 RBIs. The White Sox have yet to replace Walker.

chetkincaid
LOL I know we all hate Walker but sometimes a fresh start and a new opportunity is the only thing needed. I mean no one was complaining about Walk in 2005.

Who knows, maybe he will have a positive impact. Everything is about the fit, and he clearly didn't fit here anymore, but it would be silly to do anything but hope for his success. Soxfest
Walker leaving not so fast, he has job for life...................Per Tribune Greg Walker's options for 2012 include staying with the Chicago White Sox's organization in some capacity as long as chairman Jerry Reinsdorf continues to run the franchise. "If I leave, I want to leave on good terms with Jerry Reinsdorf," said Walker, who had dinner Friday night with Reinsdorf. "I can't tell you how much he has done for me and how he's treated me as a valued member of his family. It means a lot to me." Walker admitted he was surprised by the hiring of former Sox great Robin Ventura as manager but lent a strong endorsement. "I talked to Robin," Walker said. "He's one of my favorite people in baseball. I have a great connection with Robin." But Walker said Ventura deserves a clean slate in naming his coaching staff and did not express an opinion on who should replace him after nine seasons as hitting coach. "I wish the next person the best," Walker said. Walker said he has been contacted by Atlanta and San Diego but "there is nothing pressing." The Braves are in the midst of organizational meetings following the firing of hitting coach Larry Parrish, and San Diego released Randy Ready. He owes Walker nothing. This job for life nonsense is a joke IMO. Edited October 10, 2011 by Soxfest

You hit well and you are loved. KC is thrilled with Seitzer cause the team hit the s*** out of the ball. Is anybody on here excited about Seitzer? This is a tough tough crowd. greg775
I also pointed out that a clown like Bevington can affect a team's performance. I did not discount the role of a clown coach. All things considered, yes, I think most managers make the same calls during games. Some might hit and run more if they have the personnel to do so. But I always said the clown factor is to be considered. A manager like Bevington can affect a team negatively and if you read my posts I never discounted what a truly gawd-awful manager can do. Texsox
If you can't make it in Chicago, how could it make it anywhere else? It's not like he failed in Boston. If you failed in Boston or New York, there is still a chance for you to make it in Chicago. But once you fail in Chicago, your career is pretty much over. Texsox
Former Chicago White Sox hitting coach Greg Walker will interview for the Braves’ hitting-coach position this week. The Braves fired first-year hitting coach Larry Parrish two days after the season ended. Walker, 52, is a Georgia native and former major league player who spent 8-1/2 seasons as White Sox hitting coach before resigning after the 2011 season. He has also reportedly been contacted by San Diego about the Padres’ hitting-coach position. The Sox ranked eighth in the 14-team American League this season in average (.252), seventh in on-base percentage (.319) and 11th in on-base-plus-slugging percentage (.706), down from sixth in OPS (.752) in 2010. They were 11th in the AL in runs in 2011, seventh in 2010 and 12th in 2009. Walker was consistently praised by Paul Konerko for his work with the slugging first baseman over the years, drew criticism after former University of Georgia star Gordon Beckham’s regression since his 2009 rookie season and Adam Dunn’s career-worst season in 2011, after the former Reds and Nationals slugger signed a huge free-agent contract with Chicago. Seems as if the Braves called him. I believe in another thread it was supposed that Walker would never even have another interview.

A lot of people were complaining then about the lift and pull offense. Either way, Dick Allen gets credit here. Most believed that no teams would have interest in Walker after he left. The idea that all he taught was "lift and pull" was wrong. Some of us said so at the time. Those were the types of players he had and he was working with their strengths. I believe that some of the biggest complaints this year were that not enough players were pulling the ball and there was a decrease in power. He obviously was not getting through to players this year or that they didn't want to listen. Maybe they were tired of Ozzie and they thought he was an Ozzie guy. Who knows but Walker is well respected in baseball and will get a job if he wants one. Edited October 12, 2011 by ptatc
