caulfield12
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) So wait, according to you the home record doesnt matter because of their recent good run skewing their previous bad record, but their road record doesnt matter because of a 7 game bad run overshadows a previous 3 month good stretch? WTF? Ummm....I don't think it's quite so dramatic, and I don't recall where I said it doesn't matter. But, okay. If we had consistently won most series 2/3 or 3/4 at home over a three or four month stretch, it would probably be more indicative of a long-lasting trend. HOWEVER, the composition of the team has changed with the additions of Youkilis, Myers and Liriano, that's part of it...along with the fact that we've actually started to draw good crowds now for home games, which also can't be hurting the cause. We beat the Rangers, Angels and Blue Jays, as well as the Twins, so it's not just fattening up on the dregs of the league, either. I'll let Matt Damon from Good Will Hunting develop an algorithm which can sort of what's the true underlying cause.

Balta1701
QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 10:48 PM) the Red Sox put a waiver claim on Danny Valencia so the Twins traded him for an OFer in the GCL (speed guy, no bat. what a shock) and the Red Sox sent him to AAA. Valencia really looked like a player that could hold down third base for a while after his rookie year (a thing not done since the days of Corey Koskie). But, he never cleaned up his defense and his offense got worse. Maybe the change of teams will do him good, but I highly doubt it. Wait, what happened to Middlebrooks? flavum
Verlander's schedule sets up this way: 8-11 at Tex 8-17 vs Bal 8-23 vs Tor 8-28 at KC 9-2 vs Sox 9-8 at LAA 9-13 at Sox 9-19 vs Oak 9-24 vs KC 9-29 at Min Make no mistake, he'll be there for a division tie-breaker, or Wild Card game if they need it. It would be in the Sox best interest to win the division in 162 games.

It would both be cool and suck if Verlander pitched one of the games.
fathom
So far on the MLB Network broadcast of Tigers/Yankees, they've said that Porcello was drafted in the 27th round and that the ball flies out of Yankee Stadium to left center field.
Benchwarmerjim
the Indians have pretty much stopped trying to play defense. They pissed away a 5-1 lead after 6 innings and lost another game. JackTalkThai
Andy Dirks coming off the injured list is a huge addition to the Tigers. He was uncharacteristically hitting the ball like a batting champion before he injured his achilles and he hasn't missed a beat since his return. The additions of Dirks and Infante go a long way towards plugging the few holes they had in that lineup. flavum
Yankees/Tigers in a delay. They'll be there all day if they have to. They only share 9/17 as an off day. Peralta's and Avila really playing well since the ASB. Also, Tampa seems rejuvenated with Longoria back. Their pitching since the ASB has been sensational.
