I think Cain's a legit sub 3.50 ERA guy in the AL as well. Lincecum...Cy Young level linecum was a sub-3 ERA pitcher in the AL, but he's been so inconsistent with his work ethic and it leads to those stretches where he gets shelled.

Too much weed...

Boy are the Twins bad. How fast they fell. The other night I assumed they were going to hammer Detroit (after a nice lead), I watched the game only to see that was short lived. That has to be a frustrated city of fans. What are they going to wait for? Football season? No light at the end of that tunnel.

for a bad team, they are surprisingly watchable, unlike last year. Every time Josh Willingham is at the plate, there is a chance the ball will go very far. Joe Mauer is quietly has a fine season. Trevor Plouffe has been flying high since June 1. Ben Revere is a little spark plug of a player. The bullpen is pretty good. But, a team will never win too many game without decent starting pitching. Outside of Scott Diamond, and lately Liriano (who will be traded by the deadline) they have no one who can get past the 4th inning with any consistency.

Even though the Twins have been outscored by a staggering 89 runs, they have played 29 one run games.

your use of question marks makes you come off as a condescending douche. just saying.

This post made me smile; it was kind of funny.

The Tigers are 20th in the Majors in home runs (76). This stat is appalling enough on its face, but made worse when you consider the fact that the Tigers were supposed to mash enough runs to overcome a shoddy defense. That hasn’t happened which is why they find themselves in third place. As much blame as people want to put on the second base position, the real issue is the triangle of the two corner outfield positions and the designated hitter.

Right now, the regular starter in left is a combination of Ryan Raburn and Quintin Berry. The two have a total of two home runs. The starting right fielder is Brennan Boesch, who has gone deep eight times. And the DH is Delmon Young, who has chipped in with 7. That’s a grand total of 16 home runs from three positions which are normally counted on to produce good power numbers. Unacceptable on most teams, but certainly more unacceptable on a team like the Tigers that gives away runs with bad defense.

Is help on the way? Not within the organization. At some point, Andy Dirks will return, although there’s no timetable for that and his time on the disabled list has already lasted much longer than expected. So the help needs to come from the bat of the Padres’ Carlos Quentin. He’s the biggest name with the biggest bat that’s currently on the market. So the asking price might be high. But the need is pretty high too.

If the Tigers are going to spend leading up to the trade deadline, they’re better off spending on picking up some power over picking up some pitching.

Jim, where do you think Liriano could end up? Hearing any rumors?

(S)everal teams, including the Braves, Yankees and Blue Jays scouted his start on July 1st. Other teams that could have an interest in the southpaw include the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers.

Don't think it'll jinx us, hope not, but Hosmer of the Royals is really sucking.

Had another horrible game tonight.

Looks lost.

You got to wonder WTF. His second season as a pro has been very bad and he's not making any progress at all.

I will say, Moustakas and Sal Perez look like real players as does Cain and their shortstop.

Alcides Escobar might be the best shortstop in baseball before it's all said and done.

Part of Greinke deal, along with Cain in CF.

Starting to wonder if Moore will survive a 4th or 5th place finish.

Article discusses pros and cons of trading Broxton, Francouer (blocking Myers), Betancourt and Mijares.

Fransisco Liriano had 15 strikeouts (8 of the first 9 batters k'd) last night. Outside of a walk then a hanging changeup, he was filthy.

He has been trending toward the good side of things, and I think the Twins should sell high on him. But will other teams give up good prospects for a guy who have super high and super low valleys remains to be seen.

Please trade him before the White Sox have to face him again.

So the Tigers have won 6 in a row and only gained what a half a game?

That's gotta sting

Just noticed it was Fister who pitched a good game last night. We don't need that to continue.

So through 81, they were 39-42. Now 6-0 in the actual second half.

If they finish in the 90 win area, that would be a 'tip your cap' second half.

Sox just need to make sure they finish with 91-93 wins, and not hand anything to Detroit the final 10 head-to-head.

Jimenez is proving to be a major disaster for the Indians. Not only because of the contract they're inheriting, but also because of the pitching talent they gave up.

8-2 Blue Jays. Rocked to about the same extent the White Sox got to him.

So we'll enter tonight's game with a 3 1/2 game lead on them...and either 3 or 4 on DET.

Scherzer's pitching for the Tigers against CHEN (not Bruce's cousin).
