Balta1701
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 13, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) Ellsbury just slid into second. Now in pain holding right shoulder. Ellsbury to the DL, separated shoulder, could be out 2+ months, not decided yet whether or not surgery is necessary.

caulfield12
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 14, 2012 -> 08:09 PM) Not a good year to be a closer. One way or the other, we're in a great position with our bullpen. The Sox play well and KW holds onto them all or we can leverage Crain/Thornton to get some nice pieces back in return if closers continue to fall all over the place. Crazy game in Colorado. The Rockies were winning 5-1 over the D-Backs, they had a rain delay, Montero hit a 3 run blast, then it was 6-5, 7-5 for Arizona....Colorado rallied for one to make it 7-6, then a two out homer for Todd Helton in the bottom of the 9th won it against JJ Putz, who was KW's best acquisition in 2010. Putz has accumulated 28 consecutive saves dating back to the end of July last year, along with a 0.33 road ERA. Somehow the ball Helton hit just barely snuck in right down the line. HOF for Helton? That's definitely a borderline case, because of playing half his games at Coors Field. Got to love this story, from the Trib's Phil Rogers... Pizza man: The Royals' Jeff Francoeur loves the right-field bleacher fans in Oakland. He sent 20 pizzas to Section 149 on Thursday. "They're diehards," Francoeur said. "Those are the people you feel bad for with all the stuff that's going on right now — whether they're going to move or not. Those are the fans who obviously love coming out and being a part of it." Oakland fans and Francoeur bonded over bacon, of all things. Francoeur told the San Francisco Chronicle that he was getting kidded by fans two years ago and got into an exchange that somehow led to the subject of bacon. So naturally Francoeur tossed them a ball wrapped in a $100 bill, suggesting they get themselves some bacon and beer. When the Royals got to Oakland last week, fans presented Francoeur a green T-shirt with the words "Second Annual Bacon Fest sponsored by Jeff Francoeur." They called it Bacon Tuesday. "I'm going to wear it, and they're getting me another one signed by the whole group," Francoeur said. "It's awesome. Baseball to me is fun. We can take it too seriously sometimes. It's nights like last night that make it a lot of fun to play this game. It's something more than just baseball. It's interacting with fans and having an experience you can talk about." Yes, the number of African Americans playing MLB is down but before Jackie Robinson Latin players weren't allowed to play either... their numbers are same but because of Mr. Robinson hardly does everyone look the same regardless the number on their back. caulfield12
Nationals should have traded for Edwin Jackson earlier. 9 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K's They've pushed to do the same thing with Roberto Clemente, to have a day where all Latin players wear #21, but that's been a lot more controversial....because Clemente wasn't the first Latin ballplayer, but he was clearly one of the most outspoken, perhaps the most revered because of his humanitarian work and the manner in which he died tragically...and also the fact that it's hard to pick someone who is Puerto Rican while not offending Dominican, Mexican, Venezuelan, Panamanian, etc., players. I dont mean to disparage the impact he had. And the game is very different. I just find it rather odd to celebrate diversity by having extreme uniformity. Additionally, I really hate the idea of all players wearing the same number... irregardless of the reason behind it. Swingandalongonetoleft
Found a pretty cool site that has WS rings by year (NL/AL champ rings as well). Wanted to see how this stacked up against against those from 2000-present. Hard to do. http://www.worldseriesrings.net/ The WBC ring looks like it came out of Power Rangers. caulfield12
On the inside, the words "Happy Flight" are engraved. Rafael Furcal coined the phrase once the Cardinals started winning on getaway days. If the Cardinals were getting on an airplane the same day as a ballgame, they had an amazing streak of winning. Hence, they'd wish each other a "Happy Flight" after taking care of business on the field. That's exactly the feeling the White Sox are trying to establish this year. We had that tie game against the Astros before the season started, the loss in Texas and then the 2nd game in CLE. So 1-1-1 in terms of "happy flights."
