Saying the Sox shouldn't worry about the Cubs is like telling Pepsi not to worry about Coke. After the hardcore baseball fans you have the folks that go to a game or two a year. There are lots of them. The club is in a battle to sell tickets, advertising, and TV ratings. Their biggest competitor makes a bold move, advantage competitor.

The 2 seasons that the Sox have made the playoffs under the KW regime, there were no expectations nationally(I say nationally because this board was actually pretty excited about the 05 team) so in that regard I actually agree with Marty.

The two best posts in this thread.

It really shouldn't matter what's going on with the Cubs except for 6 games a year. KW and the Sox need to be more concerned about what teams like Detroit, Cleveland, and Minnesota are doing.

supposedly Detroit is going to be in on the CJ Wilson sweepstakes. Verlander, Scherzer, Porcello, Fister, Wilson.

That's the kind of thing the Sox need to be concerned about.

As far as Cubs vs Sox, are there really enough fans out there that will follow the team that is doing better than the other? I believe there are Cubs fans and Sox fans and few that ride the fence. Nationally, the Sox are always second class to the Cubs (with 2005 maybe being the exception). Theo going to the Cubs creates more big new for two nationally loved (or loathed) teams. The White Sox hiring Theo would also have been big news, but not as big as it'll be for the Red Sox to Cubs move for the guy.

The Tigers already have Jacob Turner.

It's doubtful they would spend the type of money it's going to take to beat out the Red Sox and Yankees for Wilson.

And all indications are that Wilson wants to go to NY. Let him get paid and flop there like most of the big dollar pitchers they sign.
