southsider2k5
Bulls are 22, Bears 41, Blackhawks 65, White Sox 101 & Cubs 109 out of 122. Top 5 are Nashville Preds, Florida Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, New England Patriots, and San Antonio Spurs. Bottom 5 from worst are Detroit Lions, New York Yankees, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and St Louis Rams. http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/the-s...202011-gfx.html A general manager’s job is to turn payroll dollars into wins. We’ve run the numbers on the last five NHL, MLB, NBA, and NFL seasons to see who’s done it best—by winning often, spending little, or (sometimes) both. Our method: By culling player payroll data from reported sources and pairing them with wins and losses over the last five completed seasons, we calculated an average cost per win in each league. Based on that number, we measured (by standard deviation) how far each team varied above or below the league norm. The result is a cross-sport rating of how every U.S. franchise compares to its peers in squeezing wins from money. We call it the Efficiency Index. max power
Picking 5 seasons arbitrarily really makes a huge difference for the white sox and probably quite a few other teams.
RockRaines
Cubs is pretty accurate there. They havent won a playoff game since 2003. The Hawks, I think, have been very good spenders outside of Campbell.
LittleHurt05
Pirates are #8, Islanders are #10, Thrashers were #11. I'm sure that makes their fans feel much better about their team's recent ineptitude.
cabiness42
Calculating and 'average cost per win in each league' is not a really good way to do this, at least not in MLB. The Yankees spend 5 times (or whatever) as much as the Pirates but it's impossible for them to win 5 times as many games, so the Pirates are automatically going to rate better than the Yankees. If a team has won a World Series in the past 5 years and at the same time made a profit that is acceptable to their ownership group, then in my book that makes them smart spenders. jwmann2
This list does't tell everything. The worst teams are at the top of the list. Islanders and Pirates? Gag me.
