Tony LaRussa is retiring.

Now this is the way to run a coaching search.

According to Joe Strauss, St. Looie to interview Francona (who should be our manager if we were serious about winning anything ever again), Oquendo, Sandberg, Joe McEwing, Chris Maloney and Mike Matheny.

They bring in the stud in Francona and see if the interview process makes them fall in love with the other guys.

Look for St. Looie to hire Tito IMO. Cause he's got titles already.

La Russa downplays talk of rejoining White Sox soon

By Mark Gonzales Tribune reporter

9:53 a.m. CDT, November 3, 2011

Recently retired St. Louis manager Tony La Russa quelled some speculation that he could join the Chicago White Sox in some capacity.

"I think they're really set up," La Russa said Thursday morning on ESPN 1000-AM's Waddle and Silvy Show. ''And I think that's the problem. I think they really are. They got their steps in place. (General manager) Kenny (Williams) does a good job. They got (assistant GM) Rick Hahn.

"They're really set up. I think I can get back into baseball somewhere, but you don't want to go into some place where they already got it figured out."

La Russa completed 33 seasons as a manager that included three World Series titles. He managed the Sox from 1979 to 1986 and maintains a strong friendship with chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. Reinsdorf said recently he would like La Russa to join the Sox in an unspecified capacity.

But La Russa said he wouldn't take a job just for the sake of having a title.

"I like responsibility," La Russa said. "I like to wake up in the morning with something to do. So if I think there's somewhere hopefully you get an opportunity, then you really prove you're really willing to work and have something to contribute."

Really Greg, serious about winning anything ever again?

Does Francona have some sort of sarcophagus technology where he can live forever?

I think its funny people are still bashing on the Sox staff, yet failing to recognize that the Cardinals want to interview one of our new coaches.

As for your Francona prediction, I would say that the Cardinals are going to pick whoever they believe will help them keep Pujols.

To be fair, they want to interview the only coach that a few of us believe is both ready to manage and has put in a lot of time proving it, not Mark Parent or anything.

Hes still on the coaching staff, and if the Sox are such a train wreck you would have thought hed pass and wait for a better opportunity.

Its pretty clear people in baseball respect Robin, regardless of what the fans on this site believe.

It doesn't change the original shot you took. I don't think I've actually seen anybody say they dislike the fact that McEwing is a coach here. Some have gone so far as to say that they would prefer him to have a higher degree of power in comparison to the other coaches. You used the Cardinals interviewing him to discredit the people who are upset about the majority of the hirings when most have said that he's the single hiring they really stand by.

And in regards to the bold part, perhaps he didn't want to wait for a better opportunity because this allows him to make more money right now, while he can continue to pursue a better job (which he clearly can do since he's already interviewing for a manager spot).

I do think its funny. I think its hilarious that without any information people are saying how much influence McEwing will have.

And I used the Cardinals to show that Robin (the Manager) picked a guy who is already being courted for a Manager position. Kind of shows that Robin might know a little something.

I get that some people on this board are going to complain for the sake of complaining. I just find it amusing, nothing more.

I love the condescension. I'm glad the best defense is that Ventura isn't so dumb that he wouldn't hire one of the guys from his own franchise that is widely considered one of the top prospects as a manager in baseball. I also like that you conveniently made no mention of the fact that everybody on the site agrees that McEwing is a good guy to have on the coaching staff while the real arguments are in regards to the rest of the new additions. Oh, and the way you ignored the simple reasoning why McEwing would accept a promotion.

That's just it... With McEwing we actually have some information. He has been a manager, and not only that, but a manager in our system. We have seen his players and teams first hand. What do we know about Ventura?

Milkman,

This is a message board, I can conveniently do whatever I want. Im tired of all the negativity and your right, Im going to be condescending to people who are negative just to be negative.

SS2K,

We know that Ventura has been a widely respected player.

As for the rest, as Ive consistently said since the beginning of time (when this message board started), I do not really believe that managers can make a huge positive impact. Its more that you just dont want a manager who is going to sink the ship because of an ego trip (Ozzie).

Which is why I consistently dont really care about the coach, as long as they are a reasonable person (Ventura).

Laughable.
