zenryan
Panama might become the CONCACAF coach killer. 2011---2-1 win in group stages vs US 2013---2-1 win in group stages vs Mexico As bad as Mexico was, it still wasnt the worst showing yesterday. I cant believe how bad Canada is right now. They were lucky only to lose 1-0 to Martinique. I kinda would like to see Canada make a Hex but it will take a miracle for them to get there in 2017. cabiness42
Just noticed that tonight's US game is at 11pm eastern. Why?? I know it's in Portland, but can't you play the game at 6pm local time, or at least 6:30?

Why do they want the US in the second game? Do they think people are going to sacrifice a few hours sleep to see a group stage game of a regional tournament? Also remember, this tournament is in the United States but is not being run by the USSF. It is run by CONCACAF.

It's a CONCACAF tournament, so they are thinking of more than the eastern United States. Mexico is the other big draw and they have the 11 ET game in Seattle tomorrow too. zenryan
The only time the US is playing the first match of the day is Saturday when its a FOX telecast during the afternoon. Mexico is playing the second match for all three of their match days. It may be run by CONCACAF but this entire tournament is set to favor the US and Mexico. Chisoxfn
I don't know that I"ve ever seen a US team have the ball this much during a game. Belize is just awful though. US is starting to look lazy. Seems like they could get 8 goals if they kept the pressure on.

If he can fully recover we're going to have one heck of a midfield. midfielders and keepers have been a strength of the US for awhile now. Just gotta develop some backline guys and strikers. This team is really coming together at the right time. Should be a fun team to watch next summer, hopefully we catch a nice grouping. Maybe its because I'm use to him and associate him with US soccer. Cobi Jones is a f***ing trainwreck. For a guy as accomplished as he is, you'd think he'd atleast sound like he's got a clue. Going to suck when ESPN loses the WC rights in 2018.

Should be a fun team to watch next summer, hopefully we catch a nice grouping. The way the draw goes it's hard to get a better group than what they had in 2010. At least they took advantage and won that group. You're going to get a top tier team (England was about as weak as those go), another European country (Slovenia below average for a second tier European team IMO) and another non-European team (Algeria? come on). I don't know if the US needs a nice grouping. They just need to beat a European team and not get stuck with Ghana lol. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 06:03 PM) I like JP. zenryan
Brek Shea is starting to venture into the category that I have Kljestan in. Just a horrible performance. I cant see him being needed in Brazil next summer. Still time for the 18 cycle.

Just a horrible performance. I cant see him being needed in Brazil next summer. Still time for the 18 cycle. I think he can fit in as a sub if you're desperate for wide play and down a goal. He is awful 90% of the time, but he can make the big play happen. In soccer the big play can be everything. It's between him and Josh Gatt out wide for me. One of them needs to make the WC roster because who else brings true wide play? Donovan pinches in a bit so that's not quite the same. ChiSox_Sonix
Speaking of wide play, 18 year old Julian Green is looking really interesting. He's been playing with Bayern's first team throughout the pre-season and has been very impressive.

Supposedly the US and Italy are the emergency backup plans but FIFA refuses to acknowledge that backup plans are even an option. The chances of it being moved are less than 5%

zenryan
An awesome pass by Landon and Shea almost f***ed it up. I'm going to assume he was thinking too much going into that strike. Anyone see Cuba beat Belize today? Needed to win by 4 and scored a goal to go up 4-0 in the closing minutes only to see a bogus offsides call. Luckily they were able to get the 4th goal in the 93rd to send them into the quarters.
Rowand44
I've always loved the World Cup but that's really the only time I watched. Everyone b****ing about adding him to the roster, all I could do was look at how great of a passer he is and how many more opportunities he should be able to create for Dempsey and Altidore and ultimately the three of them should play very well off of each other. ChiSox_Sonix
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:28 PM) I've always loved the World Cup but that's really the only time I watched. I'm actually starting to follow all the prelims and watch as many games as I can now. Let me ask you guys: what battles should I be looking for on the US roster? And what do we think the starting 11 will be come next summer? It appears the US is set in using a 4-2-3-1 Right now, my best guess as to what the starting XI will be in Brazil would be the following: Jozy Holden - Dempsey - Donovan Bradley - Jones F. Johnson - Besler - Gonzalez - Cherundolo Howard I'm going off the assumption that Holden is 100% fit and back to form at that time, but if he is not the position will almost assuredly go to Zusi. Fabian Johnson was great when pushed up to LM but he's our best LB and if Holden is fit Johnson should play back there. As good as Beasley has done at that spot for us recently, he is not a LB that should be playing there unless it's an emergency in the WC. Besler and Gonzalez appear to be Klinsman's guys at the CB positions. Goodson has looked good at the Gold Cup so he has a chance at one of the spots. Bocanegra appears to be done with the national team but I guess you could say he's still got a slim hope. Also, Maurice Edu could play there in a pinch if it becomes obvious that Gonzalez just can't get it done. At RB, Steve Cherundolo is still our best option, even at 35. Timmy Chandler is a possible option there as well. Parkhurst probably blew his chance at that spot during this Gold Cup and Brad Evans, as well as he's done, is not a RB you want playing on the World Cup stage. Players such as Corona, Diskerud, Kljestan and Eddie Johnson could see some time in Brazil as well. Also, if Aron Johansson switches to the US from Iceland, he will also push for time up top if something were to happen to Dempsey or Jozy.
