RockRaines
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) Exactly. Don't get me wrong, it's incredibly creepy, but it's not on the same level. It was in a locker room shower, not a single-person home shower. It's still weird, but it could have been the mistake of a guy that may just be an idiot. Wasnt that the kid who he bear hugged with a boner? Milkman delivers
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 05:21 PM) come on man, lame correction. we all know who he is talking about. Well, he may think the guy has incorrect information. Somebody from Penn might say they heard something big is coming soon, even though they don't work at PSU. The person might feel their opinion is worth something because they're "closer" to the situation.
StrangeSox
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) He said he deserved to die for it. I don't think there was much confusion as to what was going on... It's still a different scenario, and you can't use it to hand-wave away claims that Paterno's influence could have guaranteed a proper investigation. The point is the police heard Sandusky admit it. They did simply "hear about it." That is a fair and accurate correction. Edited November 10, 2011 by StrangeSox

Milkman delivers
OK, I found it. It was Victim #6 and it's on page 19. That was not the one with the erection. It's the one where the boy admits that he only realized that it was inappropriate when he was older. No rape with that one.

Either way, I can fairly easily see why the police wouldn't go further with that incident. Yes, it's very weird and when taken with everything else he's been found to have done since, it's clear that he would have continued on to molest that child if the mother allowed him access after that initial encounter. You're dealing with a guy with no priors, highly respected, started a foundation that would suggest the exact opposite of a pedophile, and openly admitted that he made a mistake that he feels so bad about that he wished himself dead. In that situation, I'd maybe want to keep an eye on that guy for a little while, but I doubt I'd run him in.

Soxbadger
So you can see why the police wouldnt investigate further into something weird, but you cant see why Joe Paterno wouldnt further investigate into something weird? Its become that Paterno should have done more than the police at this point, who are trained to identify this type of stuff. And Id like to say its been a pleasure to read Jenks and Iamshack. I know Milkman wants to lump us together, but the reality is that there are many times we have not agreed. Thats what happens when you think independently as opposed to believing what you read in the newspaper. Its so easy to just blindly believe. To give the police a pass here, but to condemn Paterno...I just can't understand this. One has the sole duty to prevent this sort of thing, the other is a football coach. They both made the same error. Yet they were in drastically different positions to act. Thus the difference in culpability.

The police heard him say all this. Not sure what facts I had wrong unless you are arguing with me characterization of this behavior as molestation. Jeez, are you badger now? Your argument was that the authorities failed in 1998, so Paterno's inaction in 2002 (to much more heinous accusations) made no difference. I simply state that upon hearing of these gross allegations, his going to the authorities, in fact, would have mattered. Of course both are molestation as you present them, but Sandusky only admitted to showering with the boy in 1998, and nothing else.

If you believe that Paterno was only told that "something weird" happened and not the graphic detail with which McQueary claims to have explained the situation to both Paterno and Curley, which again, was found to be highly credible by the Grand Jury (which is a dog and pony show that can't be relied upon for credible information). It really doesn't matter how aroused Sandusky was. What matters is he inappropriately touched the kid, and he admitted to doing so. And then he says he wishes he could die for it. Well, if that doesn't reflect how wrong the situation was, and how wrong he knew it was, then I don't know what does. It was pretty clear to the police what was going on here. They both made the same error. Yet they were in drastically different positions to act. Thus the difference in culpability. They heard two entirely different things. One heard that a guy with no prior record whatsoever showered in a gym locker room with a kid and bear hugged him. The other heard that the guy who previously had a questionable record buttf***ed a child. I bet if the cops were told about the assrape, they would have been right on Sandusky immediately.
