southsider2k5
We are one year away from the date the Mayans (and others) supposedly picked as the end of this world. Anyone out there buying into it, or have any feelings about this stuff? My feeling is it centers around the astrological alignment we are due to see that date more than anything. Milkman delivers
The Mayans only said it was the beginning of another cycle, from what I understand. It's like a clock hitting midnight. Time doesn't end, it just starts a new cycle. And even if the Mayans predicted the end of the world, I still wouldn't believe it. Somebody is always predicting it. Nostradamus I believe did it several times. It's not happening.
Kyyle23
The way i look at it is this, if the world is going to end, I am pretty sure I am not going to be able to stop it. So i am just going to carry on the way I always do. Of course, if I find out that I am the planet savior and I was born on the planet Rippedton with the single purpose of saving planet Earth, I will do so. I will let you guys know if that is the case

ChiSox_Sonix
The Mayans did not predict that date as the end of the world. It is the date that the 13th Baktun ends in their long count calendar. There are even instances where they describe events occurring beyond the supposed "end date". The date signifies something occurring with one of their gods but the "end of the world" theory is a modern concept that has been associated with it. There is no reason to believe the Mayans didn't just plan on re-starting their calendar

Apocalypse Test #1 Did Cubs win World Series? If "no"-> World not ending If "yes"-> Panic and loot
SoxFan1
This is probably a very unpopular opinion, but I actually do believe the end of the world is coming soon, but I don't think it will have anything to do with the Mayans. I think it's just inevitable based on how f***ed up the world is.
FlaSoxxJim
I think the Maya's calendar guy just got tired of carving and didn't keep going.

farmteam
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) I think the Maya's calendar guy just got tired of carving and didn't keep going. This has been my favorite theory for a while. My actual thought is, well, if everyone's dying, then it's not TOO bad. Sure, it kinda sucks, but you're not missing out on anything.
