Adam Dunn is not done

I used the word Dunn as Done several times in addition to booing him a lot last year. Today I am saying I will never boo Adam Dunn again and any other father with a son or daughter nobody else should't either.

Of course he moved to the American League and I expected a slight drop in stats. Also he had is appendix taken out early in the season. I think most Sox fans can recongnize the fact that he never complained, at least that it wasn't known. We all know he struggled, but I think it is fair to say it was a historic struggle. Anyhow, I found out from a creditable source that his 5 yr old son had a very bad medical condition and that's all I am going to say about that. Things are better now and I hope he really turns it around next year.

I can appreciate his professionalism by not saying a word about it and not wanting to have any attention taken off of baseball. Now I just feel bad about booing him last year. As a father myself, I worry when my son is healthy, let alone having a serious illness. What a guy.

On a sox note, he handled all that adversity like a pro last year, can't wait to see what he does with the bat next season!!!

Interesting. Glad things are better. Nothing is scarier than a sick kid.

On the off-chance that Mr. Dunn is reading this, I am very glad that your son is better. No parent should have to lose a 5 yr old, and no amount of money overcomes that loss.

I'm going to root for him. He's not a bad guy. Doesn't make excuses. He takes it on the chin. He had a bad year and he knows that. He wanted to come here to do great and help the team win. I appreciate that. Now if he was a jag who pointed fingers and made excuses, then I wouldn't care for him.

This.

Agreed. I hope he puts 2011 to rest and kicks butt in 2012. I also hope that his son is doing better.

I'm glad he kept it underwraps too as to not make excuses for his 2011 failure.

I think we all deep down root for DUNN, but I cannot cheer on professionals who have devoted their lives to this art who fail at it.

I think DUNN will win "Comeback Player of the Year!"

GO SOX!

I, uh... don't really think it's all that deep down. If you're a sox fan you sure as hell should be rooting for Dunn. Makes us a significantly better team if he's doing well.

I'm surprised that this is the first we heard of this. I understand that this type of thing could just make a father go mental, but is baseball that mental of a game that it would make a career 40 HR guy turn into a .150 and 11 HR type of guy?

I suppose the game is that mental. Even with these worries on your mind everyday, I don't think you'd see this type of severe drop off, but I guess everyone is different.

I'll be rooting for him next year and let's hope his son continues to get better.

Not to be a dick. But I need a bit more conformation from somebody other than a Soxtalk poster that claims he has a source and that's all to take any of this seriously. If his son was so sick, why wouldn't he have taken a personal leave to be with him? Better to be so mentally f***ed that you forget how to play baseball? Again, need something more legit before I believe any of this.

You're such a dick.

Yeah, I agree with you.

He better bounce way the hell back, that's all I know.

Conformation is boring. ;) Just because we all look and act alike, what would that prove? Now confirmation would be a step forward, for those that are interested.

This, plus - my next question would be - was this a secret to Ozzie? He was sticking him in situations that didn't favor him all year. No big Ozzie fan, but I can't believe he'd do that KNOWING there was an issue with his kid.

Come to think of it - I doubt Ozzie would be able to keep his f***ing mouth shut about it.

My mom raised another interesting theory on Dunn to me. She is a psychiatrist and when i was talking about Dunn and his appendectomy she noted that she has seen patients go into a depression and not being able to function as they had before b/c of the anesthesia. Its rather un-documented, but she said that some ppl just react differently to anesthesia and can take months even years to recover. She said some people brains just dont recover correctly and people can feel the effects for extended periods of time. It would be interesting to see if Dunn's appendectomy, about a 60-90 min surgery, coincides with his massive drop in performance. Just a theory.
