We're making a list of Soxtalk's favorite music of the year.

PM me your list of your favorite albums of the year At least 5 please, but shoot for 10. (We'll define 2011 as anything released December 15, 2010 - December 15, 2011)

We'll list the 20 best albums after voting closes on Jan 5.

Thanks!

I'll have to sit this one out, as I'm pretty sure my thoughts on new music are well known.

"Damn young punk kids with your loud new music, pants hanging down, metal all over your face!!!"

I have to sit this one out too, I don't really follow much new music, couldn't really tell you who came out with albums this year either.

You don't need to tell people that you aren't playing...

I'll say I'm not playing, but I look forward to seeing the list. I don't listen to a lot of new music, but I'd like to get some ideas of new music for me to listen to.

Everyone's list will get published, actually. I'm also going to extend the submission time to Sunday Jan 8. Mostly, because I don't have the free time this weekend that I thought I would to post the list up starting over the weekend.

Want some ideas about what was released last year?

I used a combination of wikipedia and Rolling Stone.

Started with the first five of our top 23 albums of 2011. (We had a five way tie for 18th.)

We determined how the rankings would go using a point scale for each ranking. If an album was on multiple lists, it got bonus points - so an album that would be ranked 8th by one poster and 9th by another poster, would be considered higher on the list than something that was #1 or #2 by a single poster.

Discuss the list here!

I was pleasantly surprised by the newest Chickenfoot album. Obviously Satriani and Chad Smith are going to hold down their own, but I thought Hagar actually did a nice here as well. Of course Michael Anthony is never going to be any great shakes as a bassist, but it's kinda funny to see him making relevant music when the other 3/4 of the original VH lineup haven't done anything of relevance in at least the last 15 years.

Yeah I am a big fan of both Chickenfoot albums. Have you heard the new VH single by the way?

I have not. Does it suck?

Its not bad. The more I listen to it the more I like it. Dave sounds good and so does Eddie. It misses Michael Anthony's background vocals and the chorus is kind of lame. Its called Tattoo if your gonna check it out.

I heard it. Music's alright, but pretty god awful lyrically...

Had a discussion with a friend about 80's rock and I was saying that part of the appeal was it was all about partying, banging chicks and all around having fun. The lyrics weren't supposed to "say" a whole lot. That was the 80's for you. But in 2012 if you're still writing lyrics like that it sounds kind of ridiculous haha
