Balta1701
Going to be quite interesting to compare to Sergio's deal.
DirtySox
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) Going to be quite interesting to compare to Sergio's deal. Indeed.
Balta1701
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) Indeed. If Reddick is involved, then that means they have a top 100 listed guy, who was at an MLB-ready level, which was btw what KW said he would want back in deals if he gave up pieces. But he's also not a starting pitcher, which obviously holds some extra value. I'd sorta call Reddick close to balanced with Molina, if the Sox scouts are right on Molina at least, and he's got a rotation future. So, what else is in there... Balta1701
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Ryan Sweeney to the Red Sox as part of the Bailey deal. Well, he's an upgrade on JD Drew.
ChiliIrishHammock24
Red Sox going to roll with Sweendog? Hmm....I was wondering if they would then want Quentin to take over Reddick's spot, but maybe they are just going to let Sweeney give it a go. Balta1701
If Reddick is out of Boston, then it's either Sweeney or they could use a RF...and they have a capable RF backup in Sweeney if they want to shoot for a power hitting RF who can't stay healthy. Balta1701
Raul Alcantera is pretty young, only threw 65 innings last year, but 2.2 ERA, 0.918 WHIP. Long term that's a nice add. Head, 3b, 15 HR and 1.022 OPS in a 1/2 season at A ball last year, .700's OPS after b umping up to high-A ball. Looks like there's some talent there too. Balta1701
I'd say those other 2 guys are the sort of "man I wish we could have gotten another piece coming back" lower level pieces that I wish we'd gotten back along with Molina for Sergio. Balta1701
Lots of people seem to think this moves Bard to Boston's rotation.

Balta1701
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) To be fair, SS was not quite AB yet... Very true, but Bailey is also not signed yet and is a first year arb-eligible player this year, so he's a service time year ahead of Sergio. Plus, he also has had injury issues and already did the Tommy John once, so you have to count him as a bigger injury risk as well. All in all, I think their values are very comparable, and I think the "throw-in guys" in this deal, if you'd accept me calling them that, are the kind of things I wish we'd also gotten along with Molina in the Santos deal. That's fair enough to me...although the key here is the Red Sox were not going to give us a SP the caliber of Molina (or of what we think of Molina, anyways)...and I am sure KW knew this. However, you make a fair point about the additional bodies.
almagest
Bailey has been a lot better than Santos -- even last year, when Bailey's stats took a nosedive, he was better. Also the Red Sox got Sweeney, who could be a nice 4th outfielder for them. I think value-wise, this and the Santos trade are about even. Yeah, but we did not throw in De Aza, who I am blindly equating to Ryan Sweeney.
