Kalapse
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) If they'd grabbed Quentin and Quentin hadn't gotten hurt, that'd probably have won them the wild card, but the "Quentin not getting hurt" part is the problem in all of this. This also isn't a video game where you just acquire the best players possible and try to fit them into spots the best you can without regard to anything but their ratings. It doesn't work that way in the real world.
fathom
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:40 PM) Much like this Castro kid? Yeah, I don't mind Castro at all. Would have liked the 2nd piece of the trade to be something more than a longshot prospect. Like you said, Cooper does his best work with guys who have control issues in the past. ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) Ok, as long as he has the pitches to be a candidate for starting, I'll be content. K. Goldstein was just on The Score and said he looks destined for a 7th-8th inning job.
SOXOBAMA
I wonder if, KW is planning on keeping our pitching and trading away Beckham, Alexei and AJ for prospects.

Quin
1) Ok, Castro is at least intriguing now given his past. But he's gotten lit up in AAA. 2) Hernandez seems to start half his games. A 5th starter/long man maybe? 3) I love SoxTalk. To my dad, it makes it seem like I have sources. 4) So here's the possible starters next year for AAA: Stewart - Santiago - Molina - Axelrod - Castro - Hernandez Chances any pan out to compliment Danks - Sale - Humber - Floyd? Springfield Soxfan
If this helps us sign Cespedes, great trade. I really have no idea how to rate the prospects...................maybe we get Madson too, who knows. Happy New Year!

Dick Allen
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) I know it's cliche...but you know who's pretty good at helping guys with control issues? The Chicago White Sox pitching coach. Besides Thornton, who has he turned from a guy who can't throw strikes to one who can?

Gavin Floyd's walk rate with the Phillies: 5.3, with the Sox: 2.7. I'd say halving your BB/9 is a positive move in the control department. I'd say he helped Humber...and to a point EJax. I'm sure Santos to a point too. Ya know what I'd always find interesting at ST is going down to the bullpen with the pitchers before the game and how Coop would emphasis more location than anything. You really can't ignore Coop's influence on some of these guys. Not saying he's the Guru of Pitching Coaches...but I'm glad he's here. I'd say halving your BB/9 is a positive move in the control department. Could be, could be his age, could be sample size, could be the Sox AAA pitching coach as his BB/9 was 3.0 there in 2007 before he was called up. I can think of several who were beyond help. Maybe Castro is one of those, but he was a B+ prospect, so all the prospect guys should be thrilled. Marty34
Best deal possible for Quentin at this time most likely. Why on earth he wasn't dealt at the trade deadline when there were teams looking for OF bats is a reason Williams should have been shown the door with Guillen.
