Oh, if you're just wanting to go to Vegas and not dead set on it being New Year's, then definitely go some other time. It will cost half as much and maybe less.

Also, depending on where you live and how much time you spend in casinos that are local to you, you can accumulate time on a players card that get you even better deals on rooms.

If you're anywhere near Hammond or Joliet, those are Ceasar's properties and if you play enough there, you can get rooms free or dirt cheap at their Vegas properties, which include Ceasar's, Rio, Bally's, Paris, Planet Hollywood, and Harrah's.

The week around Christmas is awesome to do Vegas in, if you want to go cheaply. It is pretty much empty, and dirt cheap even on the strip.

I'm heading up to Madison, WI next weekend to catch the Badgers vs Bucks game. Anyone have any suggestions on can't miss spots to drink/eat? I've never been.

What are you looking for? The obvious suggestion is to walk down state street and just pick a place. State Street Brats is pretty representative of that. Off state street there is Nitty Gritty and Dottys on Frances. Both of those places are going to have cheese curds and other Wisconsin favorites. I personally would go to Ian's Pizza (both on Frances and State Steet) but since you live in Lakeview you may have already been to one on Clark (now called Dimo's after the guy who used to work for Ian.)

I only lived on State Street, so Im not the best person to tell about things around Camp Randall. I hear they redid the South Student Union (its basically across from Camp Randall) so I have no idea whats there, perhaps a bowling alley in the basement.

If you want to be like Patrick Kane, go to the Kollege Klub, but its not one of my favorites. It really depends on what type of atmosphere you are looking for, and how many drunk people you want shouting "Asshole" at you.

Its been a long time since I lived in Madison, and to be honest, back then I was a college kid and my entire purpose in life was to find places that didnt card hard, had cheap drinks and good looking girls.

Im not exactly an expert on 2012 Madison, which is why my basic idea was just to walk down state street and see whats there these days.

Thanks for the input Badger. I've tried Ian's, which is some good drunk pizza. Maybe I'll try it in Madison, since I believe that's the original...

I'm not a real club type of person, so I'll take your advice and walk down state street. Hopefully badger fans won't be too angry after the game.

I know that some college campuses have their must visit spots. I saw "The Old Fashioned" was on the food channel for their cheese curds, that might be worth a visit as well.

Ive never been to The Old Fashioned, but that is supposed to be a place to go.

Old Fashioned, Mickies Dairy Bar, are 2 that almost every place recommends that Ive never been to. Great Dane is more of a brew pub type place and if I remember correctly has pool tables. Part of the problem is that when I was in Madison I was basically never sober.

(edit)

And Madison does not have many "clubs". Most bars are going to fall into the "dive bar" category. Drinking is something they take seriously in Wisconsin, dance movements are considered unnecessary and waste valuable drinking time.

My roommate (and best friend) just lost a close friend of his.

I don't know the full story, but she and two others were in a car and were struck by a train. She died, another girl is in a coma, and the guy is apparently stable.

He went to a small school in Indiana, and those 3 were still attending, that community is f***ed up by it right now.

I've only been to Madison once, and I actually went to the Old-Fashioned. It was pretty good, just sat at the bar for a few hours and watched the game.

Um...Hi. It depends on whether you want a college atmosphere or slightly more gown up.

Old Fashioned is really good. Great Dane brewery is also around the square. If you are closer to Camp Randall, so to Brasserie V for Belgian fare.

Calling all math people. Wife and I were going over probability stuff tonight off a random conversation.

If something has a 1 in 9 chance of happening...what are the odds that it (the 1 time of out of 9) occurs in 3 out of the 4 times you do it?

I realize if it's "what are the odds this happens 3 times in a row" it's (1/9) x (1/9) x (1/9).

Is it just (1/9) x (1/9) x (1/9) x (8/9)?

That's only the answer if you're looking for how many times you'll get the Hit 3 times followed by a Miss (HHHM).

But it could also go MHHH, HMHH, or HHMH, so the answer is 32/6561, rather than 8/6561 like you have.

So, I hate flying. I refuse to. My sister just announced her husband is going to be stationed in Italy for 4 years and my entire family wants to go visit her in 2014. So, yea.. this presents a problem for me.

Xanax and booze.

But seriously, i hear ya. I fly occasionally for work and I hate it.

You only live once. Worst-case the plane plummets out of the sky and you die a fiery death.
