2012 TV Thread

I realize this thread is basically nothing but opinions, so I'll offer an opinion of my own. I'm surprised by the amount of hate towards The Killing. I am still really enjoying it. I am wondering, however, what sort of role Richmond will have, if any. Seems like an extra character now.

Last week's episode was very good. Stan's son and then Stan himself losing it was a long time coming.

Linden should get the worst mother of the year award.

Is that what they were trying to portray though, that it was a dream? I couldn't recall when Rex said something about going to register if that meant he was back to the day before the accident or whatever. Didn't remember when "registration" occurred in the storyline for them.

Yeah, I'm pretty certain of it. Rex and his wife both had lines commenting on him just having woken up after being asleep for awhile. Also, the lighting in that last scene was altogether different and more normal than the extreme yellow-ish bluish tones that dominated the different "dream" worlds throughout the series, further suggesting (to me) that it was "real."

If there was any significance to "registration," I missed it.

The problem is they f***ed around with the audience way too much. Throwing out red herrings that are clearly red herrings just for the sake of extending the story is annoying (remember the whole terrorist angle?). Add to that the pretty awful set up of the characters, the dark, rainy, and gloomy look of the show; it's just not very entertaining. If the show had stuck to the murder investigation, it would be fine. But it tried to be all dramatic too, and that just never worked. One show that did this mix the right way was Rubicon, but unfortunately that got the ax just as it got going.

I'll admit season 2 is light years ahead of season 1. But it still has lots of issues. They keep throwing us into scenes that make little to no sense (Mitch's entire absence from her family, Stan and his sister-in-law, why Duck Phillips is all over Holder/Linden when there's clearly something bigger going on [and it appears in the next episode he's going to suddenly realize they're right], etc.).

What's worse IMO is that they're going to tell us who Rosie's killer is (the triumvirate of the chief, the building contractor and the mayor) and then spend all of next season doing what we were doing this season - building a case to charge them.

That bolded part is an odd thing to criticize IMO.

We are on day 22. TWENTY TWO! I know it's rainy in Seattle, but I think if it rained for 22 straight days as it has on the show, there'd be some arks being built at this point.

It just adds to the slow and depressing feel of the show.

I actually enjoy the mood of the show and the tone they're trying to set. Imagine how much more awful it would be if it were 90 and sunny everyday and they always wore tank tops and surf shorts. This is a murder mystery after all. Why would they try to make it cheerful?

I'll try to explain what happened the best I can.....

So in the one life, Michael and his black partner go to the storage locker and find the heroine. Harper knew if the other captain went down, she would too, so she called him and asked him to meet in a motel to have sex. He checks in, goes to the room, she handcuffs him to the bed and shoots him in the head, then put the gun in his head like it was a suicide. So Michael comes back to the station, everyone believed him, and Harper says that he will be rewarded for his efforts in solving this big mystery or whatever.

In the other life, Hawkins finds Michael next to the dumpster, bleeding, and carries him to the car. Michael wakes up in the back seat of the car hearing Hawkins talking to his captain saying he will just finish the job and then have a "friendly" investigation to sweep away the evidence. Michael then proceeds to start kicking Hawkins in the head, and he crashes the car. Michael gets out, takes Hawkins gun, but does not shoot him, just handcuffs him to the steering wheel and runs away. He breaks in to his asian therapists house and, at gun point, leads him to the storage locker to prove the drugs are there. When he arrives, he finds there are no drugs, so he locks the therapist in the locker. He ends up calling Vega and tells him what is going on. Vega meets him somewhere and brings him to Vega's house to rest. Michael tells Vega to explain the whole thing to Harper, she will help him (He didn't realize from the other life that Harper was actually a bad person, so he wrongly trusts her). Harper tells Vega his stories are bulls***, and the therapist is at the station and convinces Vega that Michael is insane and has been telling these lies for a while not. Vega agrees, and gives up Michael. While in prison, Harper comes to visit Michael and says she is going to get him the help he needs. Her phone then goes off, and the name "Munte" shows up. Michael realizes that this name is the same name that the other captain used to check in to the motel he was killed in, and has been checking in to that motel under that name for a while. And the card he used somehow was traced back to Harper. Michael then realizes Harper was responsible for this all, and he attempts to choke her to death in the cell. Guards intervene with a stun gun. He then wakes up and is told he has a visitor. He walks over to the phone, and the man that sits down is himself (which i totally predicted would be the visitor). They talk about needing to stop Harper.

Michael then has these weird visions where he is watching what happened in the motel with Harper and the other captain. Vega is there watching with him, in a penguin costume. Vega points out that Harper broke the tip off her heel, and the evidence is still in the motel room. Michael then snaps back to his other life and informs the police that Harper is really the bad person, and they find the piece of her heel in the motel room. Michael then goes to talk to Harper and tells her he figured it all out. He pulls his gun in her office and looks at if he will shoot her. But after Bryd starts banging on the door, he puts the gun away and lets them arrest her. He then tells his lady therapist what is going on. She is very happy and tries to point out that Michael's mind is finally showing him how crazy this "other life" is by including Vega in a penguin costume, and explaining that it proves the other world isn't real. Michael then proceeds to tell her he thinks simply that was just a dream he had. She questions if it was a "dream within a dream" *cue Inception horn*, and that she thought he was going to break through, but he is simply regressing now. Mid conversation with her, her body stops moving. Michael gets up, and a door behind her opens, on the other side is his bedroom. He walks in to his bedroom and sees himself laying down. He lays down on top of himself, and then they morph together and he wakes up again.

He then walks downstairs and the house appears empty. Then all the sudden Rex comes up and asks if he is ready to drive him to school. Then suddenly Hannah walks around the corner and makes a joke. Michael is so relieved to magically have his whole family back. The camera zooms in on him, he smiles, and it goes black. Credits.

So there it is. Very long detail of the episode. I may have confused a few parts in there, but that's the gist of it. No explanation really.

Not sure if they went back and shot that last scene after they got cancelled or not buti assume they wants to think he dreamt the whole season but than he closes his eyes again, so wo knows.

Show definitely started strong and tailed off.

10 minutes scenes with people crying or complaining about how tough life is are made worse by that setting though. There's very little momentum from scene to scene. It's all too depressing and not entertaining.

I still have no idea why we are following Midge around - absolutely nothing has been added to the story based on her pointless exploits.

I agree that her scenes have been dreadfully slow and seemingly pointless but we got to meet Rosie's real father and found out Rosie was about to run away before she was killed.

Yeah - but Rosie about to run away doesn't really matter, and neither does knowing what her daddy looks like. We also didn't need to see Midge and all that diner random runaway teenager bulls***. It's f***ing awful, everything Midge.

And really, watching the Larsen's home life is exhausting -

Also, two week suspension for stomping some birds? The kids f***ing sister was murdered two weeks ago, and you think the ONLY course of action is to suspend the little s*** two weeks for taking some aggression out on some birds?

Lol, Midge. I keep thinking it's Mitch.

Anyways, yes, terrible scenes. I also can't believe that they didn't come up with a decent way for Linden/Holder to get into the casino....except for Holder to try, almost die, then reenter the casino as if nothing happened. All while Linden "sneaks" (so easy to do in a casino!) into an elevator that for some reason is still going to an empty floor (yes, even though she had a key, it makes no sense that if someone is murdered up there that they would change the key and/or make the 10th floor totally off limits by elevator). And then the bigger shocker of all - she gets caught! Didn't see that coming...

Ugh.

It almost seems as though they make it up from week to week...I agree, pretty f***ing bad...I think Holder is the only character I even give a s*** about...how many times can they actually make Linden leave her kid in some s***box hotel? And why the heck doesn't she just rent a house or something already?

And yet here we all are still watching...

I didn't know Rubicon was cancelled...that's too bad...
