hogan873
Is this year's book thread already longer than last year's? If so, bravo. I just finished The Hunger Games. Good read. I'm hoping they do a good job with the movie. Now I have to figure out which of the multitude of books on my Kindle I want to read next. dyuen
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 03:13 PM) Sort of off topic, the last Decoded was on Houdini's death. I had no idea the type of life the guy lived. Wow. damn i missed that one. sometimes that show is pretty hokey but occasionally there are good ones

kjshoe04
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 12:02 AM) E-Reader proliferation maybe? That's what I was thinking too. hogan873
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 12:02 AM) E-Reader proliferation maybe? Good point. I held off from buying a Kindle for a long time. I didn't think I'd like it. I like the feeling of a real book in my hands. But once I decided to buy one I wondered why it took me so long to do it. Convenient and immediate. Plus, I've found quite a few authors with books for less than $3 or even free. Now even libraries are starting to lend e-books.

It's funny...one of the reasons I enjoyed my iPad was because in my condo I was running out of storage space for all my books...well now I bought a house and I made the sellers leave these huge bookcases for me...and I have nowhere near enough to fill them... I just wish they had better "investigators," or whatever you want to call them. Buddy with the notepad, and the engineer lady with her awful haircut, and the obvious product placement with "the Lincoln." I watch almost everything on the History Channel, but that show is pretty lame.

I watch almost everything on the History Channel, but that show is pretty lame. The one thing that always bugs me is that they never ask a follow up question. Even when they have the most obscure and unproven theory, all you get the *shocked* look from whoever asked the question, and then they are all driving on to the next place. I do like the show a lot simply for the fact they have hit a lot of topics that don't really get covered. Everyone his Roswell, JFK, etc. They have hit plenty of things I had never heard of. Capn12
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) Please let me know what you think. I have been going back and forth on buying it. I bought 11/22/63 as my first book on the Christmas gift Nook Tablet. It was a long read, and an enjoyable one. The premise of anything involving history + time travel immediately appeals to me. I read it in probably 3 days time, finding it hard to ever put down. I haven't read any King stuff since Regulators/Desperation, so it was nice to get back into his stuff with a solid book. Capn12
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) I've been reading a lot more since I bought my Nook Tablet. Mainly, because it's super easy to download books for free for Kindle and Nook. Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline, was an absolute blast to read. Anyone who enjoyed Ender's Game would absolutely adore that book. I just started the new Stephen King last night and am geeking out over it. The first 100 pages flew by and I cannot wait to finish that quickly. It is rather scary how alike some SoxTalk members are. I read 11/22/63, then looked for similar to it. Barnes and Noble recommended 'Ready Player One'. I am about 180 pages into it right now, and the sheer amount of 80's Pop Culture references are worth the read to me, alone. I'm enjoying it. southsider2k5
I am in the middle of a great book called Columbine by Dave Cullen. I have gotten about 150 pages down in about three train rides. The book is amazing and really dispels a lot of the things that were reported and now ingrained about what actually went down there. I am going to pick up the King book when I get a chance. Thanks for the reviews.

I met Dave Cullen this Fall at my library, where he did a Q&A and signed my hardcover (another reason why I'll never get a Kindle). I'm halfway through "11/22/63" and thoroughly engrossed. Texsox
I have an e-book reader (Nook) for my guilty pleasure reads. I am a permiscious reader lol. I buy most of my better literature in hardcover at used book stores or eBay.

There is a BAM and Barnes within walking distance of work, and I usually hit them up once a week or so. I got a $25 Barnes card for Christmas and managed to get 8 books only going a bit over my card. JPN366
I know I've stated it before, but definitely skim through the top 100 free books available on the Amazon Kindle store. You can usually find something interesting or even hokey fun amongst the religious books, romance novels, soft porn and general crap. Texsox
I am very surprised at how much I am enjoying Lonesome Dove. Westerns have just not been anything I thought I wanted to read. I am 200 pages in, only 650 to go.
hogan873
I started 11/22/63 the other day. I can't put put it down. The writing is very much old school King, but there's not a lot of supernatural stuff going on...well except for the time travel thing.
