NO. He did not start this.

Ozzie called Peavy a quitter.

Greg can pick and choose his own timeline and certainly will. Ozzie calling Peavy a quitter will be labeled as a past circumstance that had nothing to do with this one. It will be "dead and buried", but Peavy had to go dredging it back up.

There is no way you are a Sox fan.

Been saying this for years.

There is no way you are a Sox fan.

Are you crazy?

South Side Hit Men. Richie Zisk, Eric Soderholm, Jim Spencer, Chet Lemon, et. all.

LaMarr Hoyt should have been pitching Game Five and we beat the Orioles. But noooooo ... Jerry Dybber makes the dumbest baserunning mistake of all time.

Chet Lemon making the greatest catch I've ever seen.

Steve Trout.

Frank Thomas, Ozzie Guillen, Robin Ventura, Wilbur Wood, Mark Buehrle, Bobby Jenks, Harry Caray, season tickets sitting in the fifth row right behind the plate, my dad's business partner being one of the huge group of owners of the team back in the day.

No, I'm not a Sox fan.

And of course the title season. Best postseason run in history.

Also, Ralph Garr, Jim Essian, Wayne Nordhagen, J.C. Martin, taking part in a watermelon eating contest on the Fourth of July when they had contests on the field between games of a DH; Ken Brett.

But I'm not a Sox fan.

That mostly sounds like you're a fan of particular players.

I'm glad Ozzie is going to speak some more. I hope he makes Jerry and the front office look so bad.

I mean grown people are acting like Ozzie was welcome back one more year, the final year of his contract, etc., cause that was the company line and they say Ozzie "quit" with two games left with the Sox 29 games out of first place.

I've maintained all along KW won this war.

So what if Ozzie technically "quit" with 1-2 days to go, to take a much better job w/job security?

Please. The 2 hated each other. Kenny won. Case closed.

Speak, Ozzie. I want to hear more about this.

p.s. The difference between the Ozzie lovers and haters IMO is we lovers don't give a f*** what Ozzie says publicly. The haters tend to look at all his sentences (of which there are a zillion) and study them religiously. I took Ozzie's statements as great theatre, great fun. Many of you took them and got mad.

Can you follow Ozzie to a Marlins board? Every single post by you is about how great Ozzie is.

My goodness you are annoying.

Another lie. This thread is about Ozzie so naturally I'd comment about it.

Why wouldn't I?

Look at the title of the thread. What are you talking about??

I believe Greg is a Sox fan.

I think currently he's an Ozzie fan first, easily. But he's a Sox fan.

It's kind of funny even Ozzie likes JR but yet Greg constantly is bashing ownership and calling KW the winner. Having the type of season we had last year and being forced to trade players for payroll reasons is hardly winning, also offering to resign from your job is hardly winning.....

It's at the point a person becomes so irrational that you know they can't be serious, hell why would someone post on a message board when 95% of the members considers you an idiot/troll.

Someone who is excited that a former manager who quit on the team is going to drag the team through the mud, is not a Sox fan in my book.

Like presidents, managers receive too much credit and too much blame. IMNSHO Ozzie lost in a battle with KW for the affections of the boss. The last season here was a nightmare for everyone. Too bad we couldn't of had a nice going away party and have everyone stfu. But, Oz, and his supporters felt the need to defend him. His detractors smelled blood and piled on. Both sides exaggerating, these exaggerations are the fuel that feeds this fire. There hasn't been a comment close to reality in months about Ozzie. And Ozzie is one of the few managers that seems to view entertainment as part of the game. I kind of like him for that. He never was, and I hope he never becomes, and autobot. Spewing cliches or issues no comment.

Ozzie is a better than average MLB manager with plenty of players that like him and will play hard for him. No manager is right 80% of the time because human players have to take their decisions and make something happen. Ozzie isn't the greatest WS manager of all time, but certainly not even near the worse.

Too bad the season hasn't started or we can switch our attentions to what an idiot the current manager will be. And before someone gets all feisty, y'all know we eventually call every mananger an idiot.

I'm not an active Soxtalk poster much these days, but I used to be quite involved. I was an Ozzie backer for a long time, but even I knew that Ozzie as manager of the Sox had run it's course and it was time for both to move on. I was personally glad Ozzie "quit" with 2 games left because I knew that he'd not return.

Ozzie was a big part of this organization as a player and a manager for many years, and I will always be grateful he was. However, his ship has sailed and I'm glad he was aboard.

Two of my favorite posters make two of the best posts in this thread. Thank you. I just wish the season would start so we have something real to discuss other than soap operas and speculating on the emotions of grown men.

For the record, I gathered that Ozzie "quit" only because he was told he was not welcome back, at least not on the terms he was demanding. I believe JR allowed OG to save face and quit before going to the Marlins but would have stayed in Chicago if JR gave him his way. KW's offer to resign coupled with OG's demands to run the team made JR's decision pretty easy at that point.

You know what's bothering me the most about this post? It's the part I bolded.

First of all, how f***ed up is it that the manager and GM are "having a battle for the affections of the boss"? That sort of thing is complete crap. Their job is to do their job. And in multiple years in a row, it hasn't happened. And it hasn't just been a 1 year nightmare. The guy who got the owner's affection the year beforehand was the manager, he got the soft hitting DH he so wanted, and it wound up being a disaster just as much.

Cause all I really disagree about are certain players everybody else hates and Ozzie.

What proof do you have of that?

The 2 games that Cooper managed last year and the fact that Ozzie Guillen is now under contract with another team while the White Sox received 2 players in exchange for letting Ozzie Guillen out of the last 164 games of his contract.

I don't agree with the bolded part at all. Kenny doesn't need anyones affection. In fact he is the exact opposite.

That and he said he wouldn't manage if he didn't get his year early extension.

This isn't about Ozzie and Jake, it's just an extension of Ozzie v. Kenny. I fully expect Adam Dunn and maybe even Alex Rios (Two other Kenny guys that failed pretty miserably) to be dragged into this no later than the first time the Cubs go down to Miami (or Miami comes to Wrigley, whichever comes first). It's almost as if Ozzie never left, really. In a year that looks as promising as a Kardashian marriage, I'm not going to get too upset about that. Ozzie liked to talk about how great he was at taking the pressure off the team by drawing attention to his asshat behavior, maybe he's doing the Sox a favor here... A White Sox/Marlins World Series would be broadcast on Lifetime, not Fox.
