Milkman delivers
Since it's noon and I don't see a thread yet, I figured it was sort of necessary to recognize the occasion.
Middle Buffalo
It's amazing that he was only 39 when he was killed. The "I have a dream" speech is something I will always stop and listen to if it's on tv or radio. Maybe one day we will stop judging people by the color of their skin, their religion, their sexual preference, etc.
Texsox
I usually teach Valley of Tears on this day, as a way to bring the Civil Rights movement closer to home for my students. The streaming site that had it, isn't available, so I am working on LBJ and his legacy. He does seem to get overlooked. If not for Vietnam, history would have been kinder to his presidency. LBJ was good, but he's recognized as such by a good amount of people. You have school on MLK Day? Oh, Texas... QUOTE (Tmar @ Jan 16, 2012 -> 12:38 PM) I thought you said MILK day Nice. Texsox
We are required to teach at least one MLK lesson. Usually the kids get a day full of them. At first I felt it was a little strange, but I've come to embrace teaching on this day. I believe King would have approved.
Texsox
Plus there is a one hour edutainment feature on his life that we are required to view. One teacher is working with his "I Have a Dream" speech.
