The only state that would have voted for Lincoln and not Obama, Indiana. The only state that would have voted against Lincoln and for Obama, Virginia. Some days I wish that the North would have just let the South go. Im tired of supporting them with my tax dollars, while they refuse to change socially. And that is something your beloved liberal media never talks about, donor states. http://taxfoundation.org/blog/why-do-some-...ding-not-others http://taxfoundation.org/sites/taxfoundati...ftsbs-large.jpg Irony that 8 of the top 10 at spending federal money will vote Republican. Meanwhile its likely that at least 8 of 10 donor states will vote Democrat. (Maybe 10 of 10.) http://taxfoundation.org/article/federal-t...enditures-state Thanks to a steeply progressive federal income tax, states with higher incomes pay vastly higher federal taxes, payments that are unlikely ever to be matched by federal spending directed to those states. Ironically, most of these high-paying states are the so-called blue states that have generally elected politicians who support a more steeply progressive tax system even though their own constituents bear a greater share of the burden as the code gets more progressive. I always wonder why no one hammers on that. You dont want federal money, why am I sending it to you? The hypocrisy is unnerving. But don't you agree it will be a media lovefest at the upcoming convention? That's mainly what was bothering me and led to my rant. I dont watch the conventions or the news. Why would I want my information filtered? Most of us are born post World War II, we really have no excuse for getting our information from the media. 1984, Brave New World, etc were all written before I was born. I have beliefs and rules. The candidate who (in my opinion) is closest to my beliefs and follows my rules gets my vote. Romney can not get my vote. He is probably close to me on some views, but he does not follow my rules (must not be anti-social change.) Social trumps economic, so I have to vote for Obama. Soxbadger
How are we defining liberal? Because certain definitions I am absolutely one, other definitions I probably fall into "other" category, as I am a utilitarian (I am close a libertarian on certain things, but I dont want to be associated with them on others.) Soxbadger
I dont watch stewart or colbert that much, but my dad always comments that they make similar arguments/jokes to me. Which makes sense because probably half of their writers could be interchanged with me and no one would notice (except for the fact I cant write, but I bet they look like me). Soxbadger
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 06:07 PM) What do ya mean the South won't change socially? What do they do down there that is so bad? Just curious. Well youre not going to like my answer. So let me preface this, I dont mind people who like religion and think its important. I do mind people who think religious beliefs should be reflected in our govt. For whatever reason there are seemingly more really religious people in the South than North. Because of this you get resistance to social platforms due to religious beliefs (gay marriage is a sin, abortion is a sin). The fact should be, that it doesnt matter its a sin, that it is up to god to judge them. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons that are very irrelevant, many people believe it is their job to make sure that the rest of us dont sin. It just makes no sense. Imagine for a second, that instead of being a predominantly Christian nation, it was predominantly Jewish. Would we want kosher to be law? Of course not, if I want a bacon cheeseburger, friend shrimp and a milkshake, I as an American should be able to buy that. If God is going to send me to hell for that, heaven must suck anyway because my heaven includes bacon cheeseburgers. It also includes a lot of other things which either means 1) heaven doesnt exist or 2) Im not going there. But well find that out later, for today Im running my life how I want to. Not how some thousand year old book tells me to.
