Jacob Steven Petricka

RHP

6' 5"/195 lb.

DOB: 6/5/88, Northfield, Minnesota

Picked by the Sox in the 2nd round of the 2010 Draft (63rd overall). Signed for 540k.

He was originally drafted by the Sox out of high school, but elected to go to college instead. He was also picked by the Yankees in 2009, but did not sign.

He had Tommy John surgery when he was 18 years old, but seemed to improve after that.

He attended Indiana State University, where he majored in business management.

Last year, he played for Bristol, Kannapolis, and Winston-Salem. He had a combined record of 7-8 with a 3.65 ERA in 22 starts and 1 relief appearance. He gave up 114 hits, 46 earned runs, and 3 home runs in 113.1 innings. He had 99 strikeouts and 39 walks.

He has a fastball in the upper 90's, but his curve and change-up need work. He's also developing a slider.

Analysts seem to think he'll be a middle reliever.

He was a Twins fan growing up. Based on his twitter account (@jacobpetricka), he was married in December. He likes CALL OF DUTY, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, and the Bible. Also, he sucks at fantasy football.

He has received a non-roster invite to spring training.

QUOTE (mumbles3k @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 04:31 PM)
I'm trying to figure out how to embed YouTube videos. Can someone help?

Copy the "Embed" code on the youtube page.

Paste that text in the text editor when you're posting.

Then, when you're ready to post your video, scroll down to the bottom of the page and look for a pull-down menu labeled "HTML off". Change that to HTML on, Auto Linebreak Mode. Then hit add reply.

Former Dash hurler Jake Petricka is quite critical of himself. In this feature from MiLB.com, Petricka graded his three pitches. The righty gave his two-seam fastball a 50-55, but he saddled his slider and changeup with 40 grades. On the 20-80 scale, 50 is considered a big league average. I wonder if scouts agree about these values. I’m guessing his stock may be a little higher in scouts’ eyes.

Petricka got the loss tonight. He went 4 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Also, since he's a fan of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, I asked him on Twitter what he thought about the Turtles being aliens instead of mutants. He wants to see a trailer first, but his initial reaction is that he's "scared for them."

Petricka got his first win of season yesterday. He gave up 4 runs on 6 hits in 5.1 innings, with a walk and 5 strikeouts. That puts his record at 1-1, with a 6.75 ERA.

Also, his final word on the Ninja Turtles movie:

"I understand wanting to make another movie cuz the turtles are awesome but changing where they came from is questionable."

Petricka had what was easily his worst outing of the season tonight. He gave up 5 earned runs and another 3 unearned runs in just 3.2 innings. He had 5 strikeouts, but gave up 7 hits and walked 3. That puts his record at 1-2 and his ERA at 8.31.

Due to the double header, Petricka was promoted to Birmingham to start yesterday's game for the Barons. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 3 runs on only 3 hits, striking out 6. However, he also walked 7, and was credited with the loss. After the game, he was sent back down to the Dash.

His combined stats for the year are 2-4 with a 5.59 ERA.
