2012-2013 NFL Thread

I'm not certain of the wisdom of throwing a lot of money at one position when the Bears have many positions of need. The interior of that line right now is not good either, and really hasn't been that good the entire year. Do you recall Jay stepping into a nice comfy pocket much this season? I've seen the middle get pushed back a lot which results in jay having to dance around and throw off his back foot.

There is probably going to be a lot of parts moving in and out next offseason, so its hard to tell where the money will be allocated and who will fit in where.

But one thing is for sure, if you can lock in a really good LT, you do it. The problem is, can Long remain healthy and get back to being that really good LT

Long is still only 27. I think he could rebound from injuries. You just never know.

He is probably gonna get a ton of guaranteed money.

My only worry is that Miami just is giving up on him. But then again, they drafted his replacement for a different type of offense

I remember last season when Bears fans wanted us to throw a ton of money at Mario Williams

Or Nmandi Asomghua, remember him?

Its easy to look back at that in retrospect and say it was stupid, both of those players were top defensive players when they hit the market

And again, a pro bowl LT is gold in the NFL. You have to protect your QB.

Good LTs are not available where the Bears draft. Signing them as free agents is also hard to do, as teams know the good ones are worth their weight in gold. They are going to have to get lucky.

There have been a ton of tackles they've missed out on in the last few drafts. In 2011 they could have drafted Marcus Gilbert among other. 2012 there are several, Mike Adams is starting at RT for the steelers and is in the two deep at LT and he was taken in the second round in 2012. There are plenty of misses with their picks because they decided to go another direction. A team with such a weakness at OL needs to load up in the draft.

Mario Williams has been playing a lot better of late...that Bills defense was terrible early, but has been very respectable of late.

His injuries worry me, throwing a lot of money at one guy is risky.

Ryan Clady is also going to be on the market.

Ryan Clady is not going anywhere. He is probably the best LT in football and I'm sure Denver will sign him long term.

Mario Williams was hurt. He's since gotten better and been a stud in the last 4 games, racking up 6 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 pass deflections. And, while I understand there's more to football than merely counting statistics, Williams is very likely to end the season with better counting statistics than Peppers has ever put up with the Bears.

The Mark Anderson signing was the weird one in that the Bills seemed to believe he was a 3 down player when he is nothing more than a pass rush specialist. So long as he is used solely as a pass rusher, he's a very valuable player.

I'm so glad the Bears beat the Saints in the last game of the season a few years back. Instead of being able to draft Clady we had the privilege of drafting Chris Williams. Lovie loves winning pointless games at the end of the season (last year with the Vikings. Where Urlacher also got hurt).

Via @gregaiello, Paul Tagliabue has "vacated all player discipline" from the #Saints bounty scandal.

Chicago Bears ‏@ChicagoBears

LM: #Bears have placed PK Robbie Gould (calf) and ST standouts Sherrick McManis (knee) and Craig Steltz (chest) on injured reserve.

Well that makes the team better, no matter who replaces him.
