I'm having trouble visualizing a 10-6 head coach getting axed...usually they wait for you to have a s***tier year than that and then axe you.

Anyone remember the last 10-6 head coach to get fired?

I honestly wouldn't mind keeping him, if you hired a very, very strong-willed OC, but I just can't see that happening.

I think Schottenheimer was canned after a pretty damn good season.

Yeah, was waiting for that...

Honestly, I feel like Martz would have worked out here if it weren't for the OLine being so goddamned awful.

Jake had a point though...outside of Andy Reid, who could they bring in that you'd really feel much better about? Everyone has heard me begging for Chip Kelly, but I think most people would have more questions about him than Lovie.

What if we just replaced Tice with Norv Turner?

I would like to see Norv Turner play with these pieces.

The packers fired Mike Sherman after a 10-6 season, 3 NFC titles in 9 years. Coincidentally that is what Lovie has going for him too.

Norv Turner better not be anything but an OC

Imagine keeping Marinelli and Toub, and signing Reid and Turner as HC and OC...THAT, would be interesting. :)

The Bears have never hired a head coach with previous NFL head coaching experience. If Lovie goes, there is a decent chance Wanne II is hired. At least Bears fans will be happy until September.

I think if they go with an assistant, odds are it will be someone who isn't near as good as Lovie. I'd only boot Lovie if I thought I could get a better coach. I think Lovie is an above average coach. I think a lot of the candidates out there aren't. If I'm firing Lovie, its to hire one of the following 3: Cowher, Reid, Arians (and even Arians is a stretch for me). This team has excellent defensive talent (that will only remain such for a short-time) and good offensive talent (outside of the oline).

Angry calls to the radio stations.

Otherwise, known as "Monday".

The fan base is so stupid that they will complain no matter what. I am disgusted to call myself a Bears fan thanks to most of the other idiots that call themselves such. Easily one of the stupidest fan bases in professional sports. Its sad.

Like...Mike Martz?

I just don't see how you can let Lovie hire a 5th OC. Thats why to me if you fire Lovie, it is to hire a proven offensive mind who has shown he can be a head coach and run an offense (e.g. Reid) or you get a really proven leader and head coach who has the connections to hire a good offensive mind (e.g., Cowher).

Given how Lovie ran out Ron and the relationship Ron and Jay had, I think that would be awkard and Norv would never accept the job.

My ideal scenario would be keeping Marinelli and Toub around. I think that is most likely if you get a guy who is a really good offensive guy and who will leave the defense up to others. In that scenario it isn't bad, but the HC normally wants "his guy". I also don't know if Marinelli would stick around or not.

Yeah, you want to talk about colossal mistakes? Pittsburgh has to be kicking themselves.

He would intrigue me.

Seriously. If Whisenhunt was fired, I'd be very intrigued about bringing Hunt into the picture as well. Pretty good w/oline's from what I recall.

Too many Cubs fans in the Bears fan mix.

"I can't control all of (what might happen)," Marshall told ESPNChicago.com. "I'll tell you one thing though. I want to end my career with Jay Cutler, (quarterbacks coach) Jeremy Bates, and Lovie as my head coach."

Odd, did Marshall forget our OC in that conversation.

I think just about everyone knows Tice will be canned. Lovie has maybe a 40-50% chance of getting fired IMO.

If the Bears were run as a football franchise then Lovie would be out of a job. We however have a family run business that empowered the CFO to make football decisions. We hired Emery last year and remember the thoughts, Lovie had the power. I wouldn't be shocked if Emery is forced to keep Lovie.

Personally, I don't have that much against Lovie. His specialty is defense and the defense has been good the past few years.

The problem(s) I do have with him are the stupid and useless challenges and the inability to get an OC who can call a play in time. There is absolutely no reason you should be wasting most of your timeouts before the end of a half. It's inexcusable. The entire offense needs to be rethought and remade.

If you were an OC, would you take the Bears job knowing that Lovie is on such a short-leash? If Lovie had a good OC, I'd be content, but he has shown no ability to hire such and at this point, hiring another one just means a whole new system. Plus, lets be honest, Bears would just end up promoting Bates. How much would really change? In hindsight it was probably a big mistake letting Martz go. Should have let Martz go one more year and had Lovie and him hitched. If I'm Norv Turner, why the hell would I go to the Bears? Seems like there is a decent shot I'm ousted in a year. I guess on the flipside if the offense takes off, you might have another job (although I think at this point no one else is hiring Norv as a HC).

If I were an OC and they promised they we're gonna upgrade the OL I'd be all over the job. The weapons are there already, they just need a damn line.
