NFL announces Vilma suspended for the season; Hargrove 8 games, Will Smith 4 games and Fujita 3 games

NFLPA will make players the poor victims in 3-2-1.

Packers signed Hargrove in the offseason, but they can cut him anytime without hurting their cap numbers.

Well clearly they wouldn't have signed him if they didn't want to try him on their roster, so anything they lose helps the Bears. Ditto the Saints.

Having Vilma suspended for the full year apparently clears $4.9 million in cap space for the Saints this year, and could be the difference for them in getting Brees signed.

So they Saints are going to benefit from this? Wow. Great job NFL!

Some tweets are indicating it is Junior.

OCEANSIDE — Oceanside police are responding to a report of a shooting at the beachfront home of former Chargers star Junior Seau Wednesday.

A 911 call reporting a possible suicide was made to police at 10 a.m., a dispatcher said.

Seau lives in a two-story home on the south end of The Strand.

A crowd that includes several Oceanside police officers has formed outside the house.

No further details were immediately available.

This is pretty shocking.

@SI_LeeJenkins

Seau is the eighth member of the Chargers '94 Super Bowl team to pass

@SI_LeeJenkins

The list: Lew Bush, David Griggs, Rodney Culver, Doug Miller, Curtis Whitley, Chris Mims, Shawn Lee and Seau

So its not 100% confirmed suicide, but if it does turn out to be, the NFL needs to really start taking proactive steps to help veterans.

They had their chance in the last CBA.

Weren't there rumors Seau tried to kill himself a few years ago as well?

yeah, he drove his car off a cliff around the time he was arrested for domestic violence. He insisted he fell asleep behind the wheel

Balta,

This isnt about contractual obligations, if you start getting into WWF territory with deaths, congress and other people start to take notice. The NFL is also being sued by former players (including Jim McMahon) alleging that NFL knew risks of concussions and purposefully misled players.

Doing more with counseling, etc, could only help.

Unless it winds up being used as evidence that the former players filing the lawsuit are correct.

That horse is already out of the barn.

Compare Jim McMahon concussion and what was required to be put back in the game to Troy Aikman to Tony Romo.

Making counseling available really wouldnt be evidence that in 1986 the NFL knew the risks of concussions and didnt do anything. If anything making counseling available would support the NFL's argument.

"We had no idea it was this bad. As soon as the impact became apparent we immediately started to take action to prevent it."
