chisoxfan09
Thought this was interesting that the Sox with their 12 picks will have 5.9 million slotted. It shows how little we have spent last year and but I think it is important to invest in the farm. Each has a predetermined value, from $7.2 million for the No. 1 choice to $125,000 for pick No. 300 and any subsequent . Raul Ibanez has agreed to a contract with the Yankees, all but finalizing the draft order. Derrek Lee is the lone potential compensation free agent remaining on the market, but he won't generate a compensation pick if he signs a minor league deal, as expected. Unless Lee gets a major league contract, the aggregate bonus pools below are set in stone. The pools range from $12,368,200 for the Twins (who own the No. 2 choice and added three selections for the loss of free agents Michael Cuddyer and Jason Kubel) to $1,645,700 for the Angels (who forfeited their first two picks to sign free agents Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson). The sum of all the pools is $189,903,500, a slight reduction from the $191,876,250 clubs spent on the first 10 rounds of the loaded 2011 draft. Any team that exceeds its bonus pool by 0-5 percent must pay a 75 percent tax on the overage. The penalties escalate, with a 75 percent tax and the loss of a first-round pick for a 5-10 percent overage; a 100 percent tax and the loss of first- and second-rounders for a 10-15 percent overage; and a 100 percent tax and the loss of two first-rounders for an overage of 15 percent or more. Below are the bonus pools for each club, along with how much it spent last year on draft bonuses, both in the first 10 rounds and in total. Springfield Soxfan
Interesting, thanks for the info. Since this new draft slotting seems to have been JR's brainchild, let's see if he spends the full allotment!
JorgeFabregas
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Feb 21, 2012 -> 07:12 AM) Interesting, thanks for the info. Since this new draft slotting seems to have been JR's brainchild, let's see if he spends the full allotment! That would be nice, but I'd guess that the primary benefit for the White Sox will be that other teams spending will come down.
daggins
How much do you reckon they will spend out of that ~6 mil? 1.5? 1?

Yes, you are right, this does not mean KW will/can spend more, just other teams do not spend as much. Great analysis.
daa84
This as much as anything should help improve our system....our stubbornness to never go over slot is a big reason for the crappy draftsin recent years
