There's something very unique about how Dunn goes about things. I kinda get the sense there are two ways to look at this:

1) He's extremely confident in what he's done throughout the course of his career, what he knows is tried and true, and something was very wrong behind the scenes in 2011 that attributed to a lot of his failures.

OR

2) He's just extremely lazy, doesn't really care, and is just going to go out there and do his own thing, no matter what.

I think Dunn either has another crap season in 2012 or he comes out and has a monster, prime-Adam Dunn season. I just can't see anything in the middle happening. We know he has insane power. We know the guy can draw walks like none other. And we know he's also going to strike out a ton. Hopefully he can just get his mind right and go out there and do what we brought him in to do. Maybe less pressure (due to lower team expectations) will help.

Remember the good old days?

....sigh

Here's hoping it's a turnaround season for the big guy.

I think this is a very good assessment. I know someone who worked closely with the team during spring training last year and they were shocked by Dunn's daily workout routine. Last guy in, first guy out and that was the best thing they said about his routine.

: Jake Peavy threw a bullpen session wearing sunglasses after suffering an eye infection. ... Second baseman Gordon Beckham reported 7 pounds lighter than last spring, when he said he looked "puffy." ... Ventura reiterated that Brent Lillibridge will work at shortstop as the likely backup to Alexei Ramirez.

Wow. If true.

Of course, if he did have a sick kid that wasn't disclosed publicly, that would be quite consistent behavior with that rumor as well.

Certainly the last in first out would be understandable, but from what I was told his daily routine consisted mostly of sitting in the clubhouse.

Eh, I disagree. From what I remember of The Bridge in the IF, he wasn't too comfortable. He is so good in the OF, that I would rather Escobar just be in backup IF, especially at SS.

Well, the one other thing you can say is that the more positions he's the primary backup @, the more at bats he'd be in a position to get...and getting him at bats, after last year, does seem like a useful proposition.

Last time he made 30 starts was 2007

Dude is only 30. It sucks, I think he's going to have a really good year and the Sox will lose him (cause they clearly wont' want to pay him 20M per year). Best case, Peavy kicks ass and Sox can deal him for some pretty legit prospects. Well I guess the real best case is Peavy leads the Sox to the series :)

But I'm a realist. I'm starting to get excited about White Sox baseball though. After a bitter offseason, March is around the corner and baseball is near. I love me some baseball and I love em White Sox!!!

True, but I can't see Alexei getting a whole lot of days off either. Assuming Lillibridge is the backup at all 3 OF positions and 1B, I am sure he will get a very solid amount of at-bats this year, and probably more than last year.

He was drafted as an IF and came up as one in the minors. SS was supposed to be his strongest position

The thing is, Mary Buehrle was totally #2 until he had his bad year. It does happen.

Konerko was somewhat similar in that he said he never really worked out much in the offseason, just went off of natural strength but didn't condition his body until he started to feel older. I believe that was a few years ago, around 2008.

Some guys have been so athletically gifted and successful from that they never had to really condition their bodies. Once they hit that age though where their body just doesn't seem to have as much youthful energy though is when they realize they have to change.

Right. I am pretty sure he is a natural SS/2B. I'm just saying, when I've seen him play there, he didn't seem to good, or at least not nearly as good as he looks in the OF. And considering Escobar is supposed to be a defensive wiz, we might as well stick him as our backup IF.

Exactly. Dunn has been treated like a pariah for it.
