Marty34
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 10:04 PM) And if Beckham, Morel, Viciedo, Sale and Addison Reed all look good and perform well, same thing. If those guys perform well the Sox will contend in 2012 unless Dunn, Rios, Peavy, and Danks, guys the team have spent a lot of money on don't. Balta1701
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 10:59 PM) If the Sox aren't contending in '12 they won't contend in '13 or '14. Peavy's contract clears at the end of this year. Even if Rios and Dunn continue to struggle, that should give the Sox room to add help where they need, and in '13 we won't be looking at a rookie manager, and we'll have guys like Morel, Beckham, and Viciedo with another year under their belts. flavum
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 10:04 PM) If some of the key additions like Gustavo Molina or Simon Castro have standout minor league seasons, that's going to be the argument for staying the course. 2/3rd's of it (as far as 2012 goes) is the major league results, but there will never be more focus on our minor league seasons and the draft. If someone like Mitchell and/or Thompson emerges as a Top 50 prospect, then KW will get 2013, too. And if Beckham, Morel, Viciedo, Sale and Addison Reed all look good and perform well, same thing. You're telling me you can't upgrade a roster given $27 million? I think he's questioning if the bulk of the roster would be worth adding to if the young guys prove to suck. I'm not sure I know the answer to that. Especially if the Tigers are indeed as dominant as some people think.

Balta1701
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) Danks salary increases from 2M this year to $15.75M next year. This is of course false. He gets a $7.5 million bonus paid between June and October of 2012, for a total payout of $8 million in 2012. 2012 of course is not 2013. And since his salary other than that bonus this year is $500k, I have no idea where you got the "$2 m" number, that shows up no where. Balta1701
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 12:53 PM) Where did you get that $27M figure from? Use the spreadsheet you just linked to. Jake Peavy gets paid $17 mil this year and has a $4 million buyout in October when his option is not picked up (and counting this for 2013 is silly). AJ Pierzynski is due $6 million this year. 17 + 4 + 6 = 27. Even if you want to count the $5 million or so that Danks's contract does extend, a couple million more for Beckham in arbitration and a $2.5 million raise for Floyd...if we just want to come back with the same salary next year, we're going to have to spend nearly $20 million. Cali
Whatever the number is, I just don't trust Kenny to spend it wisely If this season goes in the tank (and who are we kidding it's gonna) it should REALLY go in the tank. Balta1701
QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 02:06 PM) If this season goes in the tank (and who are we kidding it's gonna) it should REALLY go in the tank. Where changes are made at the top The goal of this season is development. If you think otherwise, you're pretending, and that includes if you are in the group trying to fire Williams. If you think otherwise, you're pretending, and that includes if you are in the group trying to fire Williams. Edit: Holy Hell, 80k. Well there's the funny thing. No way KW would ever say (at least in public, maybe he might believe it in his mind) that the season is about developing. He's gonna say and possibly even think they have a chance to compete. So when the failure comes, he's going to look bad/delusional. The public perception (outside of us the SMARTEST BASEBALL FANS EVER) will be more failure on Kenny's part. caulfield12
Okay Marty, I'll play along. Other than keeping Konerko around and jettisoning Alexei Ramirez, what would you do? Who do you ACTUALLY want to be the GM, besides yourself? What will you have to criticize after KW is gone? You'll extend your campaign to Reinsdorf?
