And as predicted, Wisconsin only restricting transfer inside the Big 10.

https://twitter.com/#!/search/%23Badgers

(1/3) Jarrod Uthoff met with Assoc AD Justin Doherty & Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez Thursday as part of the appeal process. # Badgers

(2/3) Doherty,Alvarez& Bo Ryan collectively decided UW Athletics will lift all “permission to contact” restrictions outside Big Ten # Badgers

(3/3) Ryan is supportive of denials of Big Ten institutions only and has wanted appeals process to serve as a means for dialogue. # Badgers

I wont hold my breathe on the retractions.

That argument is the exact reason I would have stuck it to Uthoff and kept the restrictions.

Uthoff should be thankful that Bo Ryan and Alvarez are grown ups and werent going to be petty or vindictive. Word out of Wisconsin from day 1 was that when Ryan got back and spoke with Uthoff the restrictions would be lifted. Unfortunately this all happened when Bo Ryan was on vacation and Uthoff told him not to come back early.

Again, a lot of assumptions, just like you got mad at everyone for.

Anyone in their conference? Absolutely

Anyone on their schedule? I can buy that in football but not in basketball. Losing one game because you let a guy transfer to a second-tier ACC team isn't going to make or break your chances at winning the NCAA tournament.

Recruiting battles/media battles are just as important, if not more important, than losing a game. Think about it - a transfer generally doesn't transfer because he's happy about leaving. He might be ok with it. He might not be. You get him on a "rival" team and all of a sudden you have a transfer telling recruits on visits how Bo Ryan does x, y and z.

Honestly this is an issue with no easy answer because either extreme doesn't do justice. It's a case-by-case basis depending on the schools in play. I'm sure they already have it - but just create an appeal process where some independent authority can take arguments from both sides and determine if the transfer is ok or not. I know Ryan talked about how this kid was able to appeal the bans within Wisconsin's own AD.

And you are assuming that Wisconsin bent to media pressure.

Do you get bored of following people around and referring to arguments that arent even from the subject thread? I mean seriously, this is a sports section, almost everything in here is speculation, conjecture and assumption. I dont work for Wisconsin, I dont know Bo Ryan, I have never met a single person we talk about.

So what is the point of your constant sniping? It seriously gets old and detracts from actual discussion.

I do my best to stay on topic and not attack people over other arguments and things that had no relevance to the topic at hand.

All I ask is for the same respect.

Would that be before or after you taunted everyone for apologies?

Do we need to discuss whether to shut down A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub?

I think there should be discussion about banning people who snipe across threads for no reason and then try and lie there way out of it.

Bush league nonsense.

All I was asking is that you not do what you are complaining about other people doing. Taking people to task for making assumptions without facts, and then making assumptions when it benefits your argument isn't going to make your argument work.

The quick editing of posts to delete stuff really bothers me though.

That is a complete lie.

Anyone who has read my posts knows that if I change something in my post I explicitly put

(EDIT)

Whether I take someone to task about assumptions in an entirely unrelated matter, and is UNRELATED TO A SPORTS DISCUSSION.

You know assumptions are much more important when you are talking about legal rules that can be actually determined, as opposed to what a player or coach would do, which will always be an assumption.

I really did not think I would need to spell that out. My arguments are compartmentalized, I dont argue with someone in the buster and bring it here.

I can sense the tension from some posters, but I try and ignore it, I dont act any differently towards people because of disagreements in another thread. Everyone on this board has at one time been on my side or against me, and I would hope that most of them feel regardless I treated them in a similar fashion.

I cant believe you would think that I would edit my post to win a silly sports argument. I have much more pride than that.

(Edit)

Just in case someone thought I was catching someone with an edit, I added (is) after (and) in the sports discussion comment. Sometimes I dont read when I post, so I have to go back and catch mistakes.

You sir are a fine representation of the Indiana fan base.

All because someone has a different opinion than you.

LOL, but when someone gives their opinion on Wisconsin (everyone NOT a Wisconsin fan) and this whole transfer deal, you get all bent out of shape even when the facts and the media have already run with the story and Ryan looks like a complete jagbag on national radio.

Mine view might be a TAD bit different, as you're throwing a bunch of hearsay from rival FANS about Crean, with no facts backing up anything, or any quotes from players. This whole thing backfired on you sooooooo bad it was comical to watch unfold. SS2K6 called you out on it big time and he was definitely right.

Get bent out of shape?

I never attacked anyone personally, I never made any personal comments to anyone. I merely disputed the facts as they were being portrayed in the media.

If that is getting bent out of shape, then yes, I disputed the facts because I did not believe they were accurate.

As for this whole thing backfiring, I dont get that. This is a forum that I come to for different perspectives. If I wanted only Wisconsin homers, I wouldnt talk about Wisconsin on a website based in Illinois. I actually prefer to hear reasonable outside perspectives.

It really doesnt matter, half the time this board is a popularity contest. Im not going to be the most popular guy when Im the only Wisconsin fan in a NCAA thread, I get that. But, there are a few people who will read my posts openly and objectively, we may get some good discussion and to me thats a win.

Which will be awesome as that may be the only program Iowa fans dislike more than Wisconsin.

I honestly don't know of the interest from Iowa State's end. He very well may end up here, and I've read that he'd like to visit, but I'm not sure how our situation will work.

Itd be pretty ironic if after all of this if Uthoff transfers to a school that was never restricted in the first place. Would really be quite the nonsense situation to make a big deal about it, and then not really even care.

I figured he was fighting so hard because he really wanted ISU.

As we all know I disagree with SoxBadger about EVERYTHING. Because he's wrong on a lot of things...

However, without digging into Crean or any of this other stuff, I don't see how Bo Ryan is wrong in this, unless something isn't being reported.

The kid wants out for apparently no real good reason/not mistreatment, so yeah, why would you not restrict him somewhat? I mean he's the one who committed there, if it's not the right fit for him and it's his own doing, it wouldn't make sense that he could come play for Illinois or something. How would that be fair to Wisconsin?

In theory, coaches can't kick kids off for no good reason and go snag another kid already rostered on another BT team. Why should the reverse be allowed?

Krush, I hate to admit this but I was thinking almost exactly the same thing. I don't always agree with Badger and don't really care about all of the back and forth about this particular topic. But I really don't see the big deal with all of this. I still don't know all of the details, but I have no problem with transfer restrictions within reason. If the kid never spoke with Coach Ryan and essentially "faxed it in", then I'm not too worried about his whining to the press (or the press whining for him). It seems to me this story was really a lot of noise about a very small or non-issue.

The debate it had started to encourage about transfer restrictions was good, IMO.
