Ozzie Guillen is barely a top 5 manager in the NL East. He's lucky he's not coaching in the NL Central this year because there's no way he'd be a top 5 manager there.

 

To sum up:

 

-Says he does nothing at his job

-Makes assistant coaches do all the work

-Win or lose, goes back to the hotel/house and gets plastered

-Loves Huge Chavez and Fidel Castro

 

EASILY a top 5 manager.

As much as we find the fact that you crush on Guillen so much amusing or sad depending on the day. Come on, top 5. The only place he is top 5 is in your secret meetings of the Guillen society broadcast fromn your basement where you facetime chat with Cowley and Oney. I am sure to the three of you Guillen is a warrior philosopher poet who was resurrected from the dead to save mankind from traditional baseball.

Greg, I bet you didn't know that the Marlins run differential this year is negative 60. The Cubs, a team that you were furious that the Sox were unable to win more than one game against this week, has a run differential this year of negative 56. The Marlins have the 3rd worst run differential in all of baseball. That's inexcusable with that talent.

Cowley has been effectively silenced. I guess he wants the huge paycheck to continue. He's been stifled by management.

Snooki and the Kardashians make millions from TV shows. It has nothing to do with respect, just the dumbing down of the country. Fox doesn't bring Ozzie on for intelligent baseball discussion.

You also stated last year Ozzie was going to Miami to win championships. His players are arguing with him on the field, he made comments about Castro that went over in his new community like JR announcing there would be no more beer sales at USCF and concession stands were going all vegan would go over with White Sox fans. He brags about getting drunk after every game. An article comes out where his coaches do all the work, he sits in his office an plays games on his IPad. After a loss this week he said he's going to have 7 beers and a take a sleeping pill. The team is looking like the past few editions of the White Sox.

 

Its not going as planned in Miami. We know it isn't going to end well, but its starting to appear its probably going to end even uglier than imagined. It will also probably end much sooner than imagined.

 

Ozzie isn't a miracle worker. After recent articles, one may have a hard time saying worker and Ozzie Guillen in the same sentence. I don't know if it was Oney or whatever it was, but Ozzie has lost his way. He's about Ozzie. That doesn't work long term.

They've been saying that the grass has only been getting 4 hours of sun per day and they are considering grow lamps to combat that problem. Retractable roof stadiums have tough times keeping natural grass healthy.

How do you sped hundreds of millions of dollars on a stadium and not have someone figure out beforehand the average amount of time the roof would need to be open to support the grass? I'll figure that out for $20k right now. Just get me the access to Miami weather history that te MArlins surely have.

The problem dates back to the original Astrodome, where AstroTurf was invented to solve this issue: the Miami Marlins find it hard keeping grass alive in a covered ballpark.

 

It's been a wet April in Miami -- undoubtedly due to global warming, if you ask Tim McCarver -- and so the roof has been closed at Marlins Park considerably more than projected. Good for the crowds; bad for the fairly new turf that needs sunlight to thrive. Usually the problem can be solved by opening the ballpark during the day -- even if it's closed at night, as you'll see a lot at Chase Field and Safeco Field -- but that's not been an option for the Marlins grounds crew.

 

With the Fish out of town for nine days, this gives the grounds crew a chance to catch up and work their magic on a fading turf. Lamps will be used to imitate natural sunlight,

 

As you'll recall, the Astrodome sported grass during its inaugural season, with the hope that enough sunliight would enter the ballpark via translucent panels on the roof. It didn't, and the turf turned brown and played hard as a rock at the end of the season. The next year saw a brand new invention, AstroTurf, installed at the Astrodome, initiating a whole new era of artificial turf and turf-specific accidents -- like turf toe -- in the next four decades.

Considering the money Loria spent in the offseason, Ozzie's not going to have a honeymoon there, and any chance of that was gone with the Castro comments.

 

It will be fun seeing Ozzie as a third base coach in a few years, if he has a job in baseball at all.

Good post. Ozzie can't shut up. The Chicago media understood him. If the Florida media doesn't get it or thinks he's an ozzball, Loria may have to get rid of him. Is Loria a billionaire? Does Oz's contract matter to him or could he discard him quickly?

Loria is crazy. He had a pep talk with the team Thursday and bragged with the media about it, of course, the Marlins are 0-3 since then, giving up six in the ninth today.
