Is that the Razzies of broadcasting?

They take the mic and headphones that he uses and plate it with gold, which would be nice, but redundant since over the course of the season, the mic and headphones he used gradually underwent some sort of chemical reaction on their own and became pure gold. Alchemists were at a loss for words.

Tues. September 25th game vs. Indians moved to 1:10 PM due to Yom Kippur.

Looks like a lot of fans emailed Brooks "concerned" with the start time. Have games on Yom Kippur always been day games, and they forgot to move this one until now? Didn't realize it was THAT big of a deal.

Probably wasn't a big deal until it meant whether or not the starting 3B would be able to play.

Thought maybe the Sox had a lot of Jewish fans or something. Didn't realize Youk was Jewish. Reminds me of when Sandy Koufax couldn't pitch in the WS on year

I think we're the only team with a day game as of right now. I doubt Youkilis is the only Jewish person in the league.

Maybe he's the only one who observes the holiday strictly, or maybe the other teams aren't willing to change their game times.

It can't be a coincidence that the same year the Sox get Youk is the first year they change a night game to a day game.

The Chicago White Sox have changed the start time for their Sept. 25 game against the Cleveland Indians from 7:10 to 1:10, citing courtesy for the team's Jewish fans who will observe Yom Kippur beginning at nightfall.

In doing so, the team has also saved third baseman Kevin Youkilis from having to make a tough decision on whether he would play on the religion's day of atonement.

As one of baseball's most prominent Jewish players, Youkilis has been posed the "Sandy Koufax question" many times, even as recently as last year. Yom Kippur fell on Oct. 7 in 2011 and there was a debate on what he'd do if the Boston Red Sox had a postseason game schedule for that day. The team's late season collapse put that issue to bed, but Youkilis told the Jewish Journal earlier in the season that there'd be plenty of people with strong feelings on each side. It wouldn't be an easy choice, he said.

"You have to stick with your beliefs," Youkilis said. "You can't worry about people who aren't influential in your life who say things or tell you you're wrong.

"I know Shawn Green had a tough time with it. It just depends upon the community. In Boston they probably don't even care. They'd want you to play."

Missing a late September game against a flagging Cleveland team is a bit different than sitting Game 1 of the 1965 World Series like Sandy Koufax did. But it's nice that Youkilis won't have to make a decision for a White Sox team that's playing for the AL Central title. He did sit out a game at least once during his Boston tenure, but stayed in the dugout in uniform instead of attending any services.

The White Sox-Indians are currently the only MLB game scheduled for the afternoon on Sept. 25, which means plenty of other Jewish players and fans will actually be faced with the choice. There is precedent for the movement of a game, however. Back in 2009, the Yankees and Red Sox moved a Sept. 27 game from evening to afternoon to accomodate the Jewish fans of both teams.

I know almost nothing about the Jewish faith, so what is moving the game from 7:10 to 1:10 going to do?

Yom Kippur runs from sunset on Sept. 25 to sunset on Sept. 26, so moving the Sept. 25 game to the afternoon and leaving the Sept. 26 game in the evening avoids playing during the holiday.

My guy at Sox park has heard Konrko's been playing with a fractured hand/wrist for quite some time.

Perhaps the biggest "duh" in the last 2 months is that Paul Konerko is OBVIOUSLY playing hurt. We've had years of watching this guy. Sure, he's had a slump or three over the years, but throughout, when going well or not so well, he's consistently been one of the top pure fastball hitters in the game.

THAT GUY has been M.I.A. for months now. Every so often you'll see Konerko "cheat" and turn a middle-in fastball around, but for months now he's been getting beat by the heat, just aiming the outside fastballs for flares into right, and getting little bat speed and thin wood on anything with velocity in.

Will anyone be surprised when a few days after the season we hear that Paulie is having surgery on his wrist?

Unfortunately, while it's admirable to be a tough guy and to take one for the team, a team can't survive when the guy who should be the best all around hitter and consistent power threat has been morphed into nothing more than a smart hitter with far less than average ability to drive the ball. And if you're forced to play that guy, he shouldn't be sitting in the clean-up spot.

I've been a huge Konerko fan for years and years, but team management should have said "screw the macho stuff, we're sitting your butt down because you aren't helping (and can't help) the team."

And of course we have many other problems. Konerko alone is not to blame. But Paul's "injury" is a big part of why the second half Sox are so beatable. Is he feared like Cabrera or Fielder? Not even close. Present version Konerko is feared less that Gordon/Butler!
