macsandz
http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/video/play...opic_id=7647568 He literally looks nothing like this these days. He's so steep into the ball. Back shoulder dropping. Wha hoppen? (I mean besides that damn machete-tennis-backhand finish he's using) Edited April 14, 2012 by bucket-of-suck

caulfield12
I'd just like to know where the Morel from the last 6 weeks of 2011 and the Adam Dunn from ST and the first two games of the season went? Adam's 2 for his last 17, saw 30 pitches yesterday and didn't put one in play, sigh. Morel's numbers would look a BIT better if you gave him a hit instead of an error the other day in CLE. And he did contribute positively with an RBI single and a well-placed bunt, his 2nd in 2 consecutive games.
chw42
Wow, that used to be Gordon Beckham? Man, I miss that guy.
JohnCangelosi
Gordo looks completely lost up there. I hate his stance, his swing, everything he is doing up there. This is a 180 degrees difference from when he came up. Short, quick, relaxed, thinking right center on his swing. It was amazing to watch, really. I thought we were going to have a perennial all star at second base for 10 years in him. I had high hopes for him coming back this year without Walker etc but when I see the whole stance and swing it looks like he has no chance up there. Just awful. macsandz
+1 Can you believe he was the (Sporting News) ROY?
JohnCangelosi
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Apr 14, 2012 -> 03:07 AM) +1 Can you believe he was the (Sporting News) ROY? I cannot recall a player coming up in his rookie year, looking SO good, and falling off like this to where he is now. Ever.
caulfield12
Maybe Angel Berroa with the Royals...
Lillian
It looks like the hitch in his swing has become more exaggerated, and he seems to start it later. It's so frustrating to watch. I can't believe that there aren't people working with him to fix this.

Ever. Joe Charbenaeu (sp?) Was rookie of the year for Cleveland in 1980. He was so bad the next 2 years, he was out of the major leagues for good in 2 or 3 years. Chicago White Sox
At what point do you send him down to AAA and have him totally revamp his swing? I was all for giving him one more full season to prove himself, but now I'm thinking spending some down time in Charlotte without the pressure of immediate results may do him some good. Not saying we should make the move now, but if he keeps this up throughout the rest of April and into May it must be considered. The good news if we go this route is we have a guy at AAA (Tyler Kuhn) who can take Beckham's spot on the roster and who can compete with Lillibridge for playing time at 2B. Kuhn is exactly the same age as Beckham, and also had a stellar university career. Last year made people really take note of him, and he is off to another good start. I'd be very interested to see how he would adjust to MLB pitching.

caulfield12
Fernando Vina also comes to mind, but his career was wrecked by injuries, too, not just Beckham's psychological "malaise." The question with Kuhn is how many more runs would he give up defensive, compared to the possible offensive payoff? Can he really put up a 700-725 OPS at the major league level? If he can, it's probably enough to offset Beckham's 575-625 OPS. But that's a big if. Clearly, KW isn't convinced or he would have protected Tyler. If he (Kuhn) can have a career like Aaron Miles or Joe McEwing, I'd be elated. Tyler has an 804 career OPS in AA and 773 in AAA. He started out almost at 1000 OPS with Great Falls and struggled more in Kannapolis and Winston-Salem, but was still promoted to BIRM the following year. hi8is
Beckham's swing looked butter smooth on the drive he roped foul in today's game - almost akin to the path he was taking in 09... Then again, it was a foul ball. Maybe a faint reason for hope. Get it done Gordon - just kill it. Start slaying the ball and forget the ladies for now. Green: Maybe if the coaching staff locked him in his cup for the season he'd start hitting again.

maxjusttyped
His approach/swing are as bad as ever. Beckham's O-swing% (percent of pitches swung at outside the strike zone) has gone up dramatically each year he's been in the big leagues. I still think the talent is there, but he needs a ton of coaching before he becomes half the offensive player we hoped he'd be after the '09 season. Cali
I don't think that guy is ever coming back. At least not with the Sox... Thank God the glove is stellar or he'd be completely useless. As opposed to being only completely useless at the plate.

Noonskadoodle
Everybody tweet this video to Beckham haha. It is nice to see him staying positive & giving the other players props on twitter after every game, but if he somehow finds that 09 stroke.....WATCH OUT FOR THE SOX!
